Course Description
This is a self-paced course that offers a comprehensive overview of medical terminology. It is designed to
assist students in mastering the medical vocabulary and terms they will encounter in allied health,
nursing, and medical careers.
Course Learning Outcomes
 List, define, and identify medical terms for different body systems, as well as the components of
these terms.
 Identify the most common word parts for medical terms.
 Learn the pronunciation of medical terms.
 Interpret important medical, diagnostic, and laboratory abbreviations and terms.
 Construct medical terms using root words, combining forms, prefixes, and suffixes.
 Distinguish between singular and plural forms of selected medical terms.
 Classify word parts for medical terms for numbers, positions, and directions.
Online Learning Expectations
To be successful academically, online students must be able to navigate and search the web, use email,
attach and upload documents, download and save files, and have access to and use Microsoft Word,
Excel and PowerPoint. It is also expected of all students to be familiar with web-based multimedia. Please

Grading Policy
Students will complete a quiz in each of the modules of this course. All course requirements must be
completed within 180 days of enrollment.
Extra credit is not awarded.
