24th May is one of the best Bulgarian national holidays – the Day

ACROSS BULGARIA
of the Cyrillic alphabet. On this day we honor the two brothers
Cyril and Methodius who created it.
The first official celebration was in 1851 in Plovdiv.
On this day people put wreaths of flowers on their portraits and
monuments. This date is very special for all Bulgarian people –
wherever they are.

T he two brothers were born in Greece. Methodius was born


in the year 810 and Cyril - in the year 827. They had a big
family but, unfortunately, their father Leo died very young and
the boys grew up with their uncle. But they were very clever
and got very good education.
