In sport, feedb ck is inform tion the performer receives bout skill or perform nce. It usu lly
comes from the co ch or the performers themselves. There re v rious different types of
feedb ck in sport nd they tend to come in p irs.
Feedb ck received during skill or perform nce is c lled continuous feedb ck.
Feedb ck received er the completion of the skill or perform nce is c lled termin l feedb ck.
Intrinsic feedb ck is the physic l feel of the movement s it is being performed. It is wh t is felt
by the performer s they execute skill or perform nce.
Extrinsic feedb ck is provided by extern l sources, during or er perform nce. It c n come
from te chers, co ches, te m-m tes nd lso includes things th t the performer c n he r or
see.
Knowledge of results (or KR) focuses on the end of the perform nce, or the result or outcome
of the movement. For ex mple, the performer’s score, time or position t the end will show the
result of their efforts.
Knowledge of perform nce (or KP) focuses on how well the thlete performed nd the qu lity
nd p ttern of the movement.
Positive feedb ck is usu lly given by the te cher or co ch when the pl yer is pr ised following
successful outcome. Novices benefit gre t de l from positive feedb ck.
Neg tive feedb ck is received when the movement is incorrect or unsuccessful. Neg tive
feedb ck is most effective with elite performers.
There re lots of links between the different types of feedb ck. Positive feedb ck
is lso extrinsic. Knowledge of perform nce c n lso be intrinsic nd continuous.
Knowledge of results is termin l nd extrinsic.
