To Be - Negative Sentences
The negative of To Be can be made by adding not after the verb. (El negativo de TO BE se forma
agregando NOT luego del verbo.)

To Be - Negative Contractions (las contracciones de los verbos son para “acortar” las palabras y
en consecuencia el tiempo cuando se habla y es una manera más informal del idioma ya sea en
oraciones afirmativas o negativas)
There are two ways of forming contractions of To Be in negative sentences. One is with a contraction of
the subject and the verb (e.g. I am = I'm) OR a contraction of the verb and not (e.g. are not = aren't)
(Hay dos maneras de formar contracciones de TO BE en oraciones negativas. Una es con la contracción
del sujeto y el verbo – I am = I’m – o una contracción del verbo y NOT, por ejemplo: are not = aren’t.)
To Be - Questions
To create questions with To Be, you put the Verb before the Subject. (Para formar preguntas con TO BE,
se coloca el verbo antes que el sujeto.)

To Be - Short Answers
In spoken English, we usually give short answers in response to questions. (En inglés coloquial, a menudo
usamos respuestas cortas para responder a preguntas.)Are you a student? - Yes, I am (a student). The
last part (a student) is not necessary. We use shorts answers to avoid repetition, when the meaning is
clear. (La última parte – a student – no es necesaria en la respuesta. Usamos las “short answers” para
evitar la repetición, cuando el significado es claro.)

Comprensión de Texto: Sophie’s Daily Routine ( La rutina Diaria de Sophie) (buscar el significado de

Sophie is eleven years old and she lives in Brighton, England. She usually gets up at a quarter to
eight, she has a shower, gets dressed and then she brushes her teeth. After that, she goes
downstairs and has breakfast. For breakfast she usually has milk, toast and orange juice. Then
she brushes her teeth again because she likes them white and healthy! Then she grabs her school
bag and goes to the bus stop to catch the school bus. Classes start at half past eight and finish at
half past four. She usually has lunch at the school canteen with her schoolmates at about 12
o’clock. Her best friend is Amy and Sophie always sits next to her at lunch. After school she
returns home and does her homework. She is a very hard-working pupil and she never misses a
school task! After homework, she usually listens to music and watches television a bit. At half past
seven it is time for dinner. Then she usually reads a book or chats with her parents for a while.
Finally, she goes to bed at about ten o’clock, but before that she brushes her teeth. Sophie is a
happy little girl!

I’m Brenda Hawthorne, a 16-year-old secondary school student from Melbourne, Australia. I live with

father is a doctor. Jim is at school too, in year 8. We live in a pretty house close to the beach. I love
sports, especially watersports. My favourite is swimming, but I also like surfing and windsurfing. Every
