    Maria Sklodowska-Curie was a physicist and chemist who started her studies in Poland but went to France in 1891 to further her education. She studied and later worked as a scientist at the Sorbonne in Paris, where she met and married fellow scientist Pierre Curie. Together they had two children, Irene and Ewa, and discovered the radioactive elements radium and polonium. Pierre died in a 1906 accident in Paris. Maria received two Nobel Prizes, in 1903 and 1911, and died in 1934.
