Gambi, “A Wearable Fall Detection System

Based on LoRa LPWAN Technology”, JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATIONS
SOFTWARE AND SYSTEMS, VOL. 16, NO. 3, SEPTEMBER 2020)

In this research, it is presented a wearable-based approach of clothing, equipped with

sensors that get information about movement and position of the one that wears it. The
researchers want to introduce an IoT sensor for fall detection meant for supporting elderly
people, capable to transmit parameters to a supervising system using the LoRa technology.
To demonstrate the effectiveness of this kind of wearable fall detection, they developed a
pair of smart shoes.
The smart shoes contain force sensors and accelerometers (to analyze the distribution of body
weight and feet’s inclination angels with respect to the ground).
During their research, they obtained successful results such as 95% of all the data were
transmitted from the shoes to the LoRa gateway. In terms of radio coverage of the LoRa
protocol, the results show that it can cover a reliable area in a limited spatial range (such as
an university) and also in an urban environment.
In the end, LoRa proved to be the best compromise solution in terms of costs, radio coverage
and power consumption.

3. ZigBee (Afthab Jabeena, „A design and development of smart wirless sensor network for
farming water supply system”, March 2016)

In this research, it is design and develop the smart wireless technology using
microcontroller for farming with irrigation system. The purpose of this research is to provide
a smart irrigation system by using Zigbee wireless control system. Zigbee is a standards-
based wireless technology intended to address the exclusive needs of low-power wireless
sensor, low-cost and control of networks in just about any marketplace. ZigBee technology is
based on petite range WSN and it was chosen for this battery-operated sensor network as it is
of low cost, low power expenditure, and has greater useful range in comparison with other
wireless technologies like Bluetooth, UWB, and Wi-Fi.
During their research, they obtained a Zigbee-based agriculture monitoring system which
serves as a reliable and efficient system to monitor the environmental parameters. With the
help of this system, the water use reduces because it provides irrigation as per the
requirement of the crop and also the human resources reduces. The wireless monitoring of
field allows user to see accurate changes in it and the system was established to be feasible
and cost effective for optimizing water resources for farming production. Also, this system
can monitoring the status of all the sensors (temperature, water lever, soil-moinsture) and
also the ON/OFF status of the motor and FAN.
