This class will both synchronous and asynchronous. (The students will be doing some
assignments as homework outside of meeting hours.)

The students will be using a simulation from Mission US to
understand what life may have been like for a young member
of The Sons of Liberty in Boston, MA in colonial times during
British occupation. It will be assigned as homework. Before the
homework is assigned, we will discuss what the British were
doing in the colonies at this time, and why some colonists were
Patriots (and what that means), and why some decided to keep
with the status quo (and what that means).
We will discuss what an apprenticeship is, and how they
worked, as well as what it meant to learn a trade in colonial
America versus what it means to learn a trade in present day.
Students will be informed that the grade is based on
completion of the simulation, and not necessarily their
individual choices.
{The simulation is available to play online, for free (though an
email is required), and also available as a free download for
Mac, PC, and an iPad app. Because this hypothetical class is set
in Virginia Beach (where I plan to teach), the students have
Chromebooks, which will allow them to complete this
assignment.}
