Project 2: Instructions and Usability Test

You are an attentive commercial truck driver, but you might have the problem of blind spots
while driving because your mirror has been damaged. Drivers with the truck model Kenworth
T680 will benefit the most from these instructions. You will need to have the proper convex
mirror, along with a screwdriver or drill. The overall task will take no more than 5-10 minutes if
followed correctly.
Potential dangers when it comes to these instructions might result in fatal accidents because
one decided to do these instructions while driving. Park the truck in a safe place and replace the
convex mirror then. Also, if applied incorrectly, that can present a different view and alter the
driver’s perception, possibly resulting in an accident.
The goal of these tasks is to eliminate the dangers of tired driving with eliminating blind
spots for truck drivers like you. You should be invested in this instruction set because of the
possible increased safety it can bring while on the road. It can mean the difference between life
and death, not only for you, the truck driver, but for others on the road.

The diagram above provides the reader with a visual as to what certain items involved in the
replacement of a convex mirror are.

How to replace a convex mirror to better check blind spots.

1) With using any search engine, type in your truck’s make and model (Kenworth T680)
following “convex mirror” then hit search.

2) Purchase the correct size mirror best suited for the Kenworth T680 truck you have.
3) Use a screwdriver or drill to take the screw out the center piece until the backing plate
and broken mirror are completely removed from the mirror base.
4) Taking the new backing plate with the mirror, hold it upside down over your hand until
the mirror falls out safely.
5) Take the backing plate alone and with a screwdriver or drill, screw it in with the center
piece you had before until the backing plate is secured again.

6) Ensure the backing plate has motility by pressing on the right and left side. The side you
press on should move down ~1 inch as you press.
7) Once the backing plate is secured, and without taking the paper off of the 2 two-sided
tape, put the mirror in the space ensuring the new mirror will fit.
8) Take the paper off of the 2 two-sided tape.
9) Hold the mirror and from top to bottom, place the mirror down slowly until it fits the
mirror space completely.

The dangers of driving on the road are enormous. With many different drivers at the
wheel along with many distractions both in and out of one’s vehicle, accidents that can be
avoidable have a higher chance of taking place. Being able to replace damaged convex
mirrors are crucial in avoiding preventable accidents by expanding the peripheral view
around trucks, specifically a Kenworth T680 truck, one of the most popular trucks driven on
American roads. Any type of vehicle on the road is dangerous, but with the sheer weight and
force that accompanies a truck, makes a truck driver’s job of safely driving 100x more
daunting. It is imperative for truck drivers to know how to replace mirrors hence, limiting
their blind spots because not only are they driving for themselves, but they are also driving
for the safety of other small vehicles around them. From this instruction set, I want readers to
take away the importance of safe truck driving not just for the truck drivers, but for all
drivers.
