Determination of Water Content

Procedure:

1. Take the specimen of the excavated soil and weigh its mass.
2. Dry the soil specimen for one day until it completely dry.
3. Take the dried soil specimen and weigh its mass.
4. Record the mass of wet soil specimen and dry soil speciment.
5. Use formula w = [(mass of wet soil – mass of dry soil) / mass of wet soil] x 100, to
determine the moisture content of the soil.

Wet soil = 50g

Dry soil = 45g
Moisture content = 10%
