POLITE CONVERSATION WITH ISAAC NEWTON OUTLINE

Gary Goss

Isaac: Good sir, what caused you to order that cup of Guava Black Iced Tea Lemonade™?

Gary: *Discussion begins by explaining the issue simplistically. The chemicals in your brain
dictate the want for a drink, thus dictating your neurons to fire, thus compelling your body to
make movement, etc; which is all dictated by my past experiences with coffee, starbucks,
society, etc.*

Isaac: *Newton is not a fan of this method. Rather than discussing the philosophical or
psychological forces at work, he cares more about the physical world and its impact on my
choices. It’s important to emphasize the differences between the concepts of free will, to
establish a topic for the reader.*

THE THREE LAWS

*In each section, have Isaac Newton guide the discussion through explanation of each concept.
Gary’s role will be to attempt to reason through each argument, and apply them to the scenario.*

Newton’s First Law

an object either remains at rest or continues to move at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by
a force.

Newton’s Second Law

The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the
magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to
the mass of the object.

Newton’s Third Law

When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force
equal in magnitude and opposite in direction on the first body.
