literature
- a narrative set in the aftermath of the death of
Pharaoh Amenemhat I (founder of the 12 th Dynasty of
Egypt) in the 20th century BC.
- composed around 1875 BC although the earliest
extant manuscript is from the reign of Amenemhat III,
c. 1800 BC.

2. SLAB STELA OF PRINCESS NEFERTIABET

- from Giza, Old Kingdom (c. 2590-2565 BC)


- well-known slab stela depicting the princess with a
long wig and a panther-skin garment and an offering
table in front of her bears reeds indicating the products
of the field

3. BOOK OF THE DEAD

- ancient Egyptian collection of mortuary texts made up


of spells or magic formulas placed in tombs
- it helped Egyptians prepare for the afterlife where
Osiris (god of underworld) would judge them
4. WESTCAR PAPYRUS

- an ancient Egyptian text containing five stories


about miracles performed by priests and magicians
- on its text, each of these tales are told at the royal
court of King Khufu by his sons

5. INSTRUCTION OF AMENEMOPE

- a literary work composed in Ancient Egypt most


likely during the Ramesside Period
- contains thirty chapters of advice of for successful
living
- written by the scribe Amenemope son of Kanakht as
a legacy for his son
