INTRODUCTION

This document reveals the scope of works, working procedure and technical
specifications. EGMF shall abide to the technical aspects, specifications and scope of
work as presented herein and as per the clients specifications.

SCOPE OF WORKS (Fiber Obtic Cable & Accessories)

Supply of splicing junction boxes for 12 cores,

Supply of Cable Termination box (Optical Distribution Frame) for 12 core single mode
Supply of Duplex SC/UPC - LC/UPC 3m single mode patch cords
Supply of Cable labels at rack entry and manholes
Site survey,
Supply of Installation Materials,
Splicing and testing of the fibre cable
Documentation of test-results for fibre cable

SITE INSTALLATION

Indoor Installation

We have to install in site the followings depending on site configuration:

• Optical Distribution Frame

Optical Distribution Frame

The FO optical distribution frame will be installed in the racks. All the fibre cores of the
cable shall be terminated into the ODF.

Outdoor installation
The Cable come in rolls and thus will be spliced in a junction box to provide continuity.
These junction boxes will only be placed where the new cable roll needs to start

Fibre Termination Plan

The fibre cable will be terminated into each building in the ODF.
Splices and connections
Splices

As mentioned earlier, the junction boxes will be installed in manholes to provide

continuity between two cable rolls.

An average 10 m coil of fibre cable shall be left for each splice junction for future
maintenance purpose.

A coil of cable on either side of each splice will be left. These coils serve two functions:
They provide spare of cable so that a splice can be remade if necessary, without pulling
an entire length.
They allow for splicing outside the man-hole as it is impossible to make splicing inside
the manhole.

Measurements following cable splicing

Measurements will be made in both directions on both wavelengths of 1310 and 1550
nm from the link end points (ODFs)
The splice attenuation value is calculated by working out the average of the splice loss
measurements in both directions.

All these measurements will be recorded in the measurement book.

Measurements following cable connecting

End-to-End attenuation will be measured in both directions on both wavelengths of 1310

and 1550 nm.

The connector attenuation value is calculated by working out the average of the
measurements in both directions.

All these measurements will be recorded in the measurement book.

Link budget

The optical budget of the passive support will be calculated and documented on
completion of the work using a reflectometer. The actual Insertion loss shall also be
measured using Laser power source on one end and optical power meter on the other
end to calculate and document the total loss.

1
OPTICAL FIBER NETWORK ACCEPTANCE TEST

The optical fibre network is tested in two ways:

• The mechanical acceptance test
• The optical acceptance test.

Mechanical acceptance test

Throughout the duration of the work, by regular checking, inspection shall be performed
of the following points, by the customer’s representative :

⇒ Integration in conforming to the specifications of the optical equipment such as,

splice, etc…
⇒ Correct installation of cables in ducts and passage through pulling manholes.
⇒ Compliance with cable curve radius

Acceptance testing consists of ensuring that the remarks made by the customer’s
representative during inspection carried out as work progresses are taken into
consideration.

Optical acceptance test

The optical link budget of the passive support will be measured on completion of the
work using a relectrometer, programming it for a pulse width according to the length of
the section.

Section End-to-End attenuation will be measured in both directions on both wavelengths

of 1310 and 1550 nm.

These tests have already been performed during installation and records could be
submitted to the Client for approval.

All these measurements will be recorded in the measurement book and will be used later
on by the Client for cable maintenance.

FINAL ACCEPTANCE

On expiry of the warranty period, all reservations notified on provisional acceptance shall
be withdrawn.

Conclusion

The acceptance tests chronology as defined provides precise step by step follow-up of
the network by the customer.

Close partnership between contractor and the client, throughout the construction and
commissioning phases, will enable the Client to perform acceptance testing operations
efficiently and precisely, and to acquire total knowledge of its network.
