an organized association of workers, often in a trade or profession, formed to protect and further their
rights and interests.

What are the different labor unions in the Philippines?

Some of the Labor unions in the Philippines are the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Kilusang Mayo
Uno (KMU), Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO), and the Trade Union
Congress of the Philippines (TUCP).

Are Labor Unions good or bad?

Labor union is a good thing because it is a vital element in promoting the workers’ rights and welfare.
Some of the workers’ rights that are protected by the labor unions are the following:

 Equal Work Opportunities for All


 Security of Tenure
 Work Days and Work Hours  
 Wage and Wage-Related Benefits 
 Payment of Wages
 EC Benefits for Work-Related Contingencies  

Do the actions of the Labor Union outweigh the consequences or are they a bane in the society?

Although they might be Pros and Cons in the Labor Unions, I think they still outweigh the consequences
and is not a bane in the society. This is because they have helped a lot of workers and they have meet
their main goal which is to protect the worker’s rights.

Are Labor unions still relevant amidst the pandemic?

Yes, it still is relevant in these times of pandemic. And why is this so? With labor union, workers have
negotiated additional pay, health and safety measures, paid sick leave, and job preservation.
Furthermore, unionized workers have felt more secure speaking out about hazards. Without
labor unions, many workers are forced to work without personal protective equipment or access
to paid leave or premium pay. And when nonunion workers have advocated for health and
safety protections or wage increases, they have often been retaliated against or even fired for
doing so
