Implication:
Family is considered to be the foundation of social life for most Filipinos. Support persons are very vital
in a Filipino community. With this data, we can only prove that extended family is still being practiced by
most Filipinos that is tied with the nuclear family structure, which is the most common and traditional
among Filipino families. According to a journal by Stella P. Go, she described the family in the
Philippines, she reflects on the impact of urbanization and industrialization. The age of marriage has
risen, a consequence of the expanding role of women in the labor force. Families are becoming more
nuclear and many are under stress. Many families have sent members overseas as contract laborers
causing separation. Young children are working long hours for low wages under poor working conditions.
A growing liberalism toward premarital sex challenges the family's traditional function as a social
institution that helps regulate sexual behavior. She believes that the Filipino family will prevail if
nurtured. As a student nurse, we conclude that families are a vital part of a community, it is according to
the families whether a community lives in harmony or it fails to stand as one. As a quote once said
everything starts in the 4 corners of our home which basically means that we as individuals learn first
from our parents which later helps us become a united family and as we become a part of a bigger
community it is up to us to be the change or implement change so that we can overcome the obstacles we
are destined to face.
Frequency and Percentage Distribution showing Religion Survey in Barangay Bagong Normal
Analysis:
The data provided shows that ninety percent (90%) of the Barangay Bagong Normal’s
community is Roman Catholic, Ten percent (10%) is Iglesia ni Cristo, two percent (2%), Seventh-day
Adventist and the remaining two percent (2%) is Born Again Christian.
Implication:
Religious practice promotes the well-being of individuals, families, and the community. In
addition, religious practice can increase physical and mental health, longevity, and education attainment.
These effects are intergenerational, as grandparents and parents pass on the benefits to the next
generations. According to Richard Flory an Associate Research Professor of Sociology at USC and a
Senior Research Associate at the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture. Specifically, he thinks
religion contributes to strong communities in three fundamental ways. First, religion provides spiritual,
social, psychological and often material support for individuals and families. Since religion deals in

“ultimate” matters, it helps people make sense of their lives, as well as their role
in their families and in their communities.
Second, religion creates a community of like-minded people that is oriented around faith, but is also often
organized around like-types of people whether of race/ethnicity, social class, or something similar. This is
more than just a form of support group, but an actual community in which people identify with each other
and care for each other based on their shared beliefs and commitments.
Finally, religion provides material resources for those who are less advantaged, and often takes the
responsibility to speak and work for the underrepresented and less advantaged in society. Several recent
studies show that religious people tend to volunteer at higher rates than other Americans, and that the
majority of those who do volunteer work through an organization, do so through a religious organization.
Thus religion, in addition to motivating people to serve others, also provides important organizational
structures through which people can do volunteer work and otherwise interact with, and strengthen, their
communities.
To further elaborate, as a student nurse, we have learned that the main role of religion in a community is
it binds the community to become one and at the same time divided since in a community there are
different types of religions present although this occurrence happens it organizes the individuals within
the community respectively in each religion they belong.

25 Household members 0-14 years old: 55 Household members 15-64 years old:
245 Household members 65 and above: 20 Women 15-44 years old: 155.
Implication:
The growth of age-friendly community initiatives underscores a paradigmatic shift from the
individual to the community, addressing dynamic transactions between people and the environment they
are living in. he composition of local communities and wider societies is rapidly changing, as population
aging increases at an unprecedented rate. According to the World Health Organization (World Health
Organization [WHO], 2015a), the proportion of the world’s population over 60 years will nearly double
from 12 to 22% between 2015 and 2050. The older population is growing faster in urban areas than in
rural areas. According to the United Nations (2017), between 2000 and 2015, the global number of people
aged 60 years or over increased by 68% in urban areas, compared to a 25% increase in rural areas. As a
result, older adults are increasingly concentrated in urban areas, with 58% of the world population aged
60 years or over residing in urban centers. In 2050, 80% of older people will be living in low- and
middle-income countries. The World Health Organization [WHO] (2007) refers specifically to enhancing
the age-friendliness of urban centers, calling for “a necessary and logical response to promote the
wellbeing and contributions of older urban residents and keep cities thriving”.Urban environments can
affect older adult’s well-being due to concerns regarding safety and security, health risks, access to
housing and services, and social isolation and exclusion (Barusch, 2013; Buffel and Phillipson, 2016).
The aging population and urbanization trends illustrate the importance of considering the ways in which
“age-friendly” urban planning can enhance the well-being of older adults, linked to concepts of successful
and active aging. Successful aging can be understood as involving avoiding disease and disability and
maintaining high cognitive and physical functioning and engagement with life (Rowe and Kahn, 1997).
The WHO’s Active Aging Policy Framework focuses on the concept of “active aging”, which is defined
as a process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation, and security in order to enhance
people’s quality of life as they age. This enhances people’s ability to realize physical, social, and mental
well-being over the life course, including access to adequate protection, security, and care. Efforts to
develop Hong Kong into an age-friendly city were stated the 2016 Policy Address. The importance of
promoting active aging has been reinforced as the new generation of older adults will be healthier, more
energetic, better educated, and capable of making further contributions to the community (Chief
Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, 2016).
As student nurses, we believe that Age does not just affect the Health sector of the community but also it
affects it Economically, socially and etc. but as like any problem this too can be overcome with the proper
utilization and unity of the individuals as a member of their community problems with age population
will be eradicated.
