Progress I have made during this week

(Don’t forget to provide a breakdown of time spent on each item listed)

● Watched videos about how to use acrylics and painted the skateboard, skateboard is
now COMPLETE- 2 hours
● Reading up to page 84 in “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards,
which is a book about improving creativity and artistic confidence. I also did two of
the drawing exercises in the book- 3 hours

What I need to move forward with my Capstone (time, space, materials, contacts)
● Need to use what I learned in the book so far to make more drawings that I can use
as content on my website
● Need to continue reading the book (it has over 250 pages) and doing exercises from
the book, which could take me a while
● I need to watch youtube tutorials about drawing techniques used to make art look
more realistic
● I might need a better eraser because mine is low quality and difficult to use in
drawings
● Need to look at people’s art for inspiration and learn how people develop a unique
“artistic style”

Obstacles I have encountered and how I’ve moved forward:

● I at first made the eye of the tiger on the skateboard too dark and was worried at first,
but then I realized that I could just wait for it to dry and paint a new coat on top to
start over
● I also only had acrylics in very basic colors so I had to experiment with mixing the
paints to get the right color for the nose and eye of the tiger
● For the eye I knew I wouldn’t be able to paint the pupil as an exact circle so I made a
couple of paper stencils to paint them

Obstacles I can foresee in my next steps:

● Time constraints are an obstacle- making enough drawings to have enough content
for my website might be hard as making quality drawings takes much longer than I
had expected. I also need to keep in mind that I still have to learn how to make a
website and display my work in a way that looks nice which will be time consuming
● I expect that I won’t know what to draw- “artist’s block”
○ Going on youtube to look at other people’s work might give me some
inspiration

The skills I’ve used and what I’ve learned:

● I learned about the psychology behind drawing and why people often feel like they
just can’t draw. The book went quite in depth on psychology which I found interesting
and helped me understand how I can make my drawings better
● Used problem solving skills when painting and improved my confidence in using paint
as a medium in art, which is something that used to be daunting for me

My goals and deadlines for the next week:

● Complete a drawing that is challenging- possibly a drawing of a character as I’ve
always struggled to draw people
● Learn more about pencil crayon drawings and possibly make one
● Read more of “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”
● Watch more Youtube tutorials and get inspiration for drawings

My evidence of progress. This includes but is not limited to: diagrams, screenshots,
photos, videos, rough drafts, schedules, meeting notes, mind maps, etc
