Describe the contributing factors in deciding the route location of the proposed highway. (10 marks) With neat sketches, propose a road network consist of all the road hierarchy at central business district (CBD). Justify the proposed network base on the characteristic of the road hierarchy. (10 marks) QUESTION 2 a) b) ‘A suburban undivided 4-lane highway on rolling terrain has a peak hour volume in one direction of 1500 vehicles per hour, with peak hour factor estimated at 0.85. All lanes are 3.05 m wide. There are no obstructions within 1.83 m of the kerb and interchange of 3 km apart. The percentages for the various heavy vehicle types are: Proportion of Truck/Buses (PT) = 12% Proportion Recreational Car (PR) = 2% Determine the Level of Service of this section of highway. (10 marks) The speeds of five vehicles were measured (with radar) at the midpoint of a 0.8 km section of roadway. The speeds for vehicles 1,2,3,4 and 5 were 70.8, 67.6, 82.1, 78.8, and 74 km/hr, respectively. Assuming all vehicles were travelling at constant speed over this roadway section, calculate the time-mean, space-mean speeds, density and flow. Distinguish between time mean speed and space-mean speeds. A ten-storey building is proposed at 10 m from the inside edge lane of the highway. Evaluate whether the building will affect the sight distance. On the same alignment, determine the minimum length of its crest vertical curve with grades of +4 and -2 percent, using the minimum length based on stopping sight distance of 222 m (S 7-17 > 11-16 > 16-22 > 22-28 nl m] of 0] | >} > 28 Table 1.2: Passenger car equivalents on extended freeway segments Type of terrain Factor Level Rolling Mountainous Er (trucks and buses) 15 25 45 Ea (RVs) 1.2 2.0 40 Table 1.3: Adjustments for lane width Lane Width, m | Reduction in free flow speed fiw, kmih 36 00 35 1.0) 34 24 33 34 32 56 3.1 84 3.0 706 © Hak Cipta Universiti Teknologi MARA CONFIDENTIAL CONFIDENTIAL APPENDIX 4(2) ECIDEC 2015/CEGS52/505, Table 1.4: Adjustments for right-shoulder lateral clearance Reduction in free flow speed fic, km/h | Right-shoulder | lateral clearance, Lanes in One Direction | " 2 3 4 36 218 00 00 00 00 15 70 Or 03 02 72 75 73 Or 04 09 29 19 10 06 06 39 26 13 08 03 48 32 16 aA 0.0 5.8 3.9 1.9 1.3 Table 1.5: Adjustments for number of lanes Number of lanes (one direction) Reduction in free flow speed fy, km/h 25 0.0 4 24 3 48 2 73 Table 1.6: Adjustments for interchange density Note: For all rural freeway sections, fy = 0.0 Interchange/km Reduction in free flow speed fio, km/h 50.3 0.0 04 14 05 24 06 3.9 0.7 5.0 08 6.0 09 8.1 i) 9.2 and 10.2 12 12.4 (© Hak Cipta Universiti Teknologi MARA CONFIDENTIAL, CONFIDENTIAL, Vp= v [PHF x N x fav x fp] fav= 1 [1 + PH{Er-1) + Pa(En-1)] Bu =n (Co-L/Y Gueentl+R =gith-a wns, -{# xk 7 Va © Hak Cipta Universiti Teknologi MARA APPENDIX 4(3) ECIDEC 2015/CEGS552/505 L= 46.74R o,-4 2R Lp =R{(@ - 28s)}rad arg 200) + JH) A AS? 2o0h i, + 200(H +S tan f) 4 Lin = 25 ~ Logg =1004 CONFIDENTIAL, CONFIDENTIAL APPENDIX 2(1) ECIDEC 2015/CEGS52/505, Table 1.1 Guide for Equivalence Factor Percentage of selected hi ee mae 0-15% 16-50% | 51-100% good vehicles* Type of Road Local | Trunk ae ees mn 30 37 Equivalence Factor 12 20 Table 1.2 Maximum Hourly Ca ities under Ideal Condition Road Type Passenger Vehicle Units Per Hour Muttilane Two Lanes (bothways) Three Lanes (bothways) 2000 per lane 2000 total for bothways 4000 total for bothways Table 1.3 Carriageway Roadway Reduction Factor Carriageway Width Shoulder Width 2.0m 150m 4.25m 4.0m 7.5m 1.00 0.97 0.94 0.90 7.0m 0.88 0.86 0.83 0.79 6.0m 0.81 0.78 0.76 0.73 5.0m 0.72 0.70 0.67 0.64 Table 1.4 Traffic Reduction Factor Type of Terrain Factor Flat T = 100/ (100 + Pc) Rolling T= 100/ (100 + 2Pc) Mountainous T = 100/ (100 + 5Pc) (© Hak Cipta Universiti Teknologi MARA CONFIDENTIAL, CONFIDENTIAL APPENDIX 2(2) ECIDEC 2015/CEG552/505, Table 1.5 Structural Layer Coefficients, a Type of Layer Property Coeffiecients Wearing and , - Baier | Asphaltic Concrete 1.00 Course “turnh Type T: 0.80 Nee etuminoys Stability > 400kg Type 2: Stability > 300kg 0.56 Road Base ; Unconfined Compressive Cement Stabilized Strength (days) a 30-40 kg/cm?
