It%is%important%to%watch%the%amount%of%
heat%being%applied%using%the%hot%air%
gun.%%Excessive%heat%can%damage%the%
LCD%and/or%melt%the%plasVc%bezel%

 Hot%Air%Gun%Usage %%
•  The%hot%air%gun%is%used%to%heat%the%adhesive%under%the%glass%
of%the%digiVzer.%%%%
•  You%want%to%be%cauVous%around%any%plasVc%parts%like%the%
bezel,%the%home%budon%and%on%cellular%models%the%top%center%
area%where%the%antenna’s%are%located.%
•  We%have%found%the%best%pracVce%is%angle%the%hot%air%nozzle%
between%30%to%45(degrees%facing%the%outer%edges%of%the%iPad.%
•  Don’t%stay%in%the%same%spot%for%more%then%5%seconds,%
conVnually%move%the%air%flow%around%the%edges%of%the%iPad%to%
get%a%even%heat%spread%around%the%digiVzer.%
•  Using%an%infrared%thermometer%monitor%the%heat%to%maintain%
between%100°%%and%120°%%Fahrenheit.%
•  If%the%digiVzer%is%badly%damaged%and%the%LCD%is%exposed%avoid%
that%area,%any%exposure%of%heat%to%the%LCD%can%cause%
irreparable%damage%to%the%LCD.%
WARNINGS%
•  The%hot%air%gun%can%reach%1000°F%of%flameless%heat%at%the%
nozzle.%%Keep%face,%hands,%hair,%clothing,%etc.,%away%from%the%
air%stream.%
•  Do%not%point%directly%at%your%skin,%it%will%burn%you!%
•  Maintain%about%a%2%inch%distance%from%the%object%being%
heated.%
•  Connect%to%a%grounded%outlet%to%avoid%the%risk%of%fire%or%
eclecVc%shock.%
•  Never%operate%the%gun%on%its%side%on%a%bench,%Always%hold%it%
securely%in%the%hand.%
•  Wear%safety%glasses%while%operaVng%the%unit.%
•  Never%use%a%heat%gun%if%overly%Vred%or%aher%taking%any%kind%of%
drug.%
•  Avoid%using%this%tool%in%or%near%flammable%liquids%or%in%an%
explosive%environment.%
•  Don’t%touch%the%nozzle%while%operaVng.%%Wait%for%a%cool(down%
period%of%3(5%minutes%aher%the%unit%is%turned%off.%
•  Keep%the%nozzle%at%least%¼”%away%from%the%work%surface%to%
ensure%unrestricted%air%flow.%
Step%1%–%Digi;zer%removal%
NOTE:%%You%should%be%wearing%either%
nitrile%or%powder%free%latex%gloves%
while%working%on%the%iPad%to%prevent%
fingerprints%and%possibly%imbed%glass%
shards%in%your%fingers.%

NOTE:%The%iPad%digi;zer%is%aZached%to%
the%frame%using%adhesive%between%
the%glass%and%frame.%
%
Moving%in%a%circular%moVon%around%the%
frame,%heat%all%four%side’s%of%the%
digiVzer%using%the%hot%air%gun.%Once%
the%glass%reaches%a%temperature%
between%100°%and%120°%the%adhesive%
will%begin%to%loosen%up.%
%
Step%2%
NOTE:%Heat%%the%glass%to%
approximately%100°%Fahrenheit.%

Start%by%inserVng%an%iSesamo%or%a%
metal%spudger%between%the%plasVc%
bezel%and%the%digiVzer%glass%as%shown.%
%
Keep%your%heat%gun%ready%as%the%
digiVzer%will%conVnue%to%cool.%%%
%
Applying%constant%heat%will%keep%the%
adhesive%loose%and%allow%removal%of%
the%digiVzer%assembly.%
Step%3%
Using%a%twisVng%moVon,%gently%lih%the%
lower%right%corner%while%applying%heat%
at%the%same%Vme.%%Once%you%have%an%
opening,%insert%a%guitar%pick%to%prevent%
the%glass%from%adhering%back%to%the%
frame.%%%

NOTE:%%On%a%badly%damaged%digi;zer%
pieces%of%glass%will%break%off%as%you%
start%hea;ng%and%liPing%the%digi;zer.%

Step%4%
NOTE:%%The%notch%cut%into%the%nylon%
spudger%is%the%furthest%point%to%which%
you%will%insert%between%the%frame%and%
the%glass,%this%will%prevent%you%from%
accidentally%scratching%the%LCD.%

Once%a%gap%is%opened,%insert%a%nylon%
spudger%and%slowly%start%moving%up%
toward%the%upper%right%corner.%%About%
every%2%to%3%inches,%%insert%a%guitar%pick%to%
prevent%the%digiVzer%from%re(adhering%to%
the%frame.%

NOTE:%Depending%on%how%badly%the%glass%
is%cracked,%you%may%have%to%con;nually%
insert%the%iSesamo%under%various%
sec;ons%of%the%digi;zer.%

Step%5%
CAUTION:%%The%Wi4Fi/Bluetooth%
antenna%is%aZached%to%the%glass%with%
adhesive,%take%extreme%cau;on%by%
looking%under%the%glass%before%
inser;ng%any%tools.%

Move%to%the%bodom%of%the%iPad.%%Start%
at%the%center%(Home%budon)%and%work%
from%the%center%outward%on%both%the%
leh%and%right%side%of%the%home%budon.%%
Insert%guitar%picks%as%you%proceed.%

Use%the%iSesamo%or%metal%spudger%tool%
to%peel%the%antenna%off%the%glass.%%

Read%before%proceeding.%
The%Wi(Fi/3G%version%of%the%iPad%has%a%
plasVc%secVon%at%the%top.%%%

Be%cauVous%when%heaVng%the%top%
secVon%as%%excessive%heat%can%
permanently%damage%the%plasVc%
making%a%replacement%digiVzer%

Once%the%digiVzer%is%free%from%the%
frame;%lay%the%digiVzer%open%as%shown.%

With%a%badly%damaged%digiVzer,%pieces%of%glass%may%
have%fallen%onto%the%LCD.%%Remove%the%glass%with%
compressed%air%or%canned%air%in%a%safe%direcVon%or%

glass%pieces%off%the%LCD.%

Brush%or%blow%off%%any%glass%that%may%
have%fallen%on%the%LCD.%

screws%from%each%corner%holding%down%

badery%and%the%logic%board%unVl%you%
feel%the%iSesamo%touch%the%rear%of%the%
iPad%case.%

Gently%pry%using%the%iSesamo%and%a%
finger%to%prevent%the%logic%board%from%
popping%upward.%%You%may%need%to%
slightly%heat%the%rear%of%the%iPad%to%
break%the%adhesive%loose%between%the%

Once%a%gap%is%made%between%the%
badery%contacts%and%the%logic%board,%
insert%a%non(conducVve%item%between%

the%adhesive%to%the%frame.%

Apply%a%thin,%uniform%coaVng%to%the%bonding%
surface%using%the%minimum%amount%that%will%
fully%coat%the%surface.%%Allow%3M%Primer%94%to%
dry%thoroughly%before%applying%tape.%This%is%
usually%accomplished%in%5%minutes%at%room%
temperature.%Be%sure%the%primed%surface%
remains%free%from%contaminants%prior%to%
applying%the%digiVzer.%

NOTE:%%When%applying%the%primer,%take%your%
Vme%and%pay%special%adenVon%to%not%brush%
the%primer%onto%the%outside%edge%of%the%
plasVc%bezel.%

Install%the%four%strips%of%adhesive%onto%
the%backside%of%the%new%bezel.%%

Note:%%The%bezels%some;mes%come%
with%pre4installed%adhesive.%

Peel%the%adhesive%protecVve%backing%
from%the%plasVc%bezel.%

Install%the%new%bezel%into%the%frame,%
