Course Description:
This course is an introductory course in statistics with an emphasis on the applications of basic statistical
methods in design studies and behavioral science. Descriptive statistics and intermediate inferential
methods will be discussed. This course is a massive open online course (MOOC) where students could
listen to lectures repeat in their spare time on Moodle. Students are required to participate in class
meetings to practice the knowledge covered in the video lectures.

Course Objective:
This course introduces the student to the concepts and knowledge of statistics. Having successfully
completed this course, the student will be able to:
• Understand the basics of descriptive and inferential statistics necessary to carry on design studies
• Identify statistical techniques to the analysis of design data
• Identify design guidelines and solutions through data reduction techniques
• Develop the ability to make decisions based on limited available information
• Summarize/analyze collected data to the design of products and interfaces
• Apply knowledge of statistics to the evaluation of products and interfaces
