mobile telephones, radio-based devices, and antennas.

l The devices' optimal range will only be reached with an exterior antenna.
l When telephone and two-way radio systems are installed properly there is no danger to safety system e. g.
ABS or airbag. A prerequisite is however that there has been no intervention in their installations. Parallel
wiring to such systems must be avoided.
l Excessively high electromagnetic fields can arise if mobile telephones and radio devices, with or without
an incorrectly installed exterior antenna, are used.

In such a case, damage to health and interference with vehicle electronics cannot be ruled out.

TRANSMITTED OUTPUT, INSTALLATION LOCATIONS

Volkswagen permits the installation and operation of radio units, as long as the transmitted power on antenna
base, listed in table, is not exceeded. For prescribed antenna locations, see table.

Limit according to VDE 0848, part 2 (max. permissible field intensity to protect persons) must be maintained
even, if necessary, through reduction of transmission output.

TRANSMITTED OUTPUT VOLTAGE SUPPLY

When retrofitting transmitter/receiver unit in the vehicle, the battery is used to connect the positive and negative
wire.

The wiring harness must be manufactured additionally:

l Voltage supply positive via read wire, 2.5 mm2 cross section
l Voltage supply negative via brown wire, 2.5 mm2 cross section

The positive wire must have a fuse which must be located very close to the battery. Therefore, a fuse panel must
be secured next to battery. Both wires must be encased in an insulating hose.

suitable connections must be attached on battery side.

Proceed on unit side according to operating instructions.

Route the auxiliary wiring harness separate from the vehicle wiring. Minimum distance: 10 cm

NOTE: For some telephone systems and radio communication units an additional
terminal 15 (ignition) is necessary. If this is the case, then route a 1.5 mm2 cross
section wire from the transceiver to terminal 15a.

When installing, make sure wiring connections are not routed parallel to
standard wiring.

INTERFERENCE SUPPRESSION MEASURES

Wednesday, December 2, 2020 11:05:47 AM Page 21 © 2011 Mitchell Repair Information Company, LLC.
2010 Volkswagen Golf
Accessories & Equipment Communication

All standard and optional electrical consumers in the vehicle are shielded.

Interference suppression includes all sensors, actuators and all electrical motors in the vehicle, as well as
controllers in control modules that could cause high-frequency interference.

For interference suppression, electrical parts capacitors, coils and diodes are installed directly in the electrical
components.

Interference suppression components are also built into the connection housings of electrical consumers.

The grounding cables that used to be employed for shielding purposes are no longer used because interference
suppression is now done as near as possible to the source of the interference.

ANTENNA AND WIRING

A shielded wire must be used between transmitter/receiver unit and the antenna. Shielding must be grounded to
unit and antenna.

At the same time ensure correct and continuous Ground (GND) connection of antenna base wire to vehicle
body.

The transmitting system must only be used when shielded to prevent interference in the antenna wiring. To
ensure the system it is tuned and operating correctly it is recommended that an output/performance check is
carried out.

SERVICING RADIOS AND TELEPHONES

Before starting repair work, batteries must be disconnected. Refer to [For transmission(s) 0A4, 02E, 09G,
02Q] [For engine(s) CBTA, CJAA, CBUA, CCTA, CBFA] Removal and Installation

For removing and installing trim, refer to Removal and Installation .

Observe manufacturers operating and installation instructions for cellular telephones, two-way radios and
antennas.

Secure wiring harnesses to cable ties. Wrap connectors with foam to avoid rattling noises.

OTHER AUXILIARY INSTALLATIONS

Voltage supply must also be routed via separate wiring set and secured by fuse.

RADIOS/TELEPHONES WITH A TRANSMITTED OUTPUT ABOVE 10 WATTS, PREREQUISITES

l The transmitted output on antenna base (see manufacturers designations) must not exceed the relevant
max. values.
l You may not use antenna locations other than those shown in the table.
