1. Nike is an athletic footwear and clothing manufacturer that is a good


example of multinational corporation that has incorporated corporate
social responsibility into its overall business strategy. It is based in
Oregon, USA. It operates in 120 countries and has over 20,000
employees.
Also, Nike has endorsed the CERES Principles, it is an opportunity to
engage important stakeholders in a broad and highly credible forum.

Morever, the majority of Nike’s manufacturing takes place in


developing countries that has employed 500,000 workers. Also Nike
launched it’s ‘Transparency 101 program that is designed to ensure
that the public is aware of everything that the company is doing. With
this it begun to investigate and report on conditions in its various
factories worldwide.

On ‘safe products and services’, Nike is required to ensure the safety


of its products for those who manufacture them, as well as for the end
users.

On risk reduction, the CERES principles state that a company must


minimize risks to employees in the communities in which it operates.

On 'informing the public', the CERES principles state that a company


must report, in a timely manner and to all who may be affected, any
aspect of the company's operations that could pose a threat to
environment, health or safety.

Nike has been the number one in the apparel industry on its annual list
of ‘America’s Most Admired Companies’. They are also listed as one of
the 226 companies recognized for sustainability efforts on the Dow
Jones Sustainbility Index.

2. The problems encountered are:


 A continued effort to eliminate PVC in its products.
 Reducing emissions at factories worldwide and encouraging the
adoption of environmental management systems in each plant.
 Nike has a goal of 3% organic cotton use in every unit of the
company by 2010
 ‘Reuse a Show’ programme which has enabled some 13 million
pairs of athletic shoes to be recycled.

 Monitoring of labour conditions in the factories operated by its


many overseas suppliers.

3. Yes. There is a solution, the solutions are the CERES Principles,


Transparency 101 program, and the Reuse a Shoe Program

4. Yes these solutions can improve the company for in the end Nike has
been has been the number one in the apparel industry on its annual
list of ‘America’s Most Admired Companies’. They are also listed as one
of the 226 companies recognized for sustainability efforts on the Dow
Jones Sustainbility Index.

5. The future plans of Nike was indeed a great decision of the company.
As you can see Nike has been the most famous apparel and clothing
industry all over the world and with that Nike can go a very long way
as we can see today until now.
