COMMON METHODS OF PURIFYING DRINKING WATER 7/12/20 Monday

 1. Boiling. This is the most obvious and simplest method of purifying the
drinking water one could adopt. If you are home and use tap water for cooking
or even drinking, it might contain germs and other disease-causing microbes.
Boiling water kills all the germs and microbes present in the water.

 2. Chlorination.
Chlorine effectively kills a large variety of microbial waterborne germs, including those
that can cause typhoid fever, dysentery, cholera and Legionnaires' disease. Chlorine is
widely popular for eliminating waterborne diseases in the United States and other
developed countries. And Life magazine recently cited the filtration of drinking water and
use of chlorine as "probably the most significant public health advance of the
millennium."

 3. Filtration.

Filtration is another common way to purify water especially the silty water that is the
water rich in mud, clay or sand.

4. Purification of water by adding alum

ALUM

Alum acts as coagulant and it joins with the impurities and collects all the impurities and
settles down at the bottom of the container. Pure water can then be poured out of the
container as seen in the figure above.
