I. Registered Professional Engineer (in good standing) from recognized Professional Bodies with
substantially equivalent assessment
II. Graduate Engineer registered with BEM
III. Has obtained 3 years practical experience as specified in Regulation 22(1)
IV. Has passed Code of Professional Conduct Assessment;
I. IN TERM OF EXAMINATION:
There are many differences between every route to be professional engineer. In term of
examination for route A, candidate need to provide career history, 2000 words report & report on
specific project with drawings and details calculation. Hence, interview and essay are required for
routes A on the exam day. For route B, candidate need to provide career history, fill in competency
form with 5 categories and report on specific project with details calculation and drawing. Beside
that, presentation, peer interview and written essay are required in this route B. Lastly, for routes C
candidate need to provide pre-assessment review, application form, experiences report and CPD
requirement. This routed required candidate to do presentation, peer interview, written exam and
exam on code of professional conduct.
From the table above, route 1 is easier to be a Professional Engineer compared to other
route in term of examination that should be sit by the applicants. For the first route, in the exam
application, the applicants should only provide career history, elaborate their career history in 2000
words report and bring the report on specific project with the drawing and details. In the exam day,
the applicants will only have peer interview in about 90 minutes and write 2 essays in 1.5 hours.
Route 1 is the fastest way to get the title of Professional Engineer compared to the other route.
