2020 Inspiration House
Located on beautiful Havens Rd in the Rocky Fork corridor of Blacklick, Ohio, this custom-built home on
five and a half acres, was destined to be an Nth Degree project. From the very first time we laid eyes on it;
we knew there were more than enough redeeming qualities to create a perfect suburban estate! With the
hilled and wooded site, the two ponds, the detached additional building, and the perfect location, we
couldn’t wait to start the remodel. There were some inherent and glaring problems though; no west facing
windows, very limited rear spaces taking advantage of the beautiful backyard views, the 80’s styling
choices, and the many hand painted murals throughout!
Overall, this was not a complete gut (although many spaces were taken down to the studs) but every part
of the house was touched. The two-story spiral staircase stretching from the first to the third floors was
removed. The detached 2,500 square foot building complete with a floored second story needed to better
relate and be connected to the main house. The Kitchen/Great Room really wanted to be in the back of
the home with lots of glass overlooking the grounds and pond. There was not much of a usable outdoor
presence (the new Screened Porch is now an owner’s favorite) and the previously awkward first floor
Laundry with open half Bath is now a perfect Messy Kitchen/Pantry! The Lower Level with ten-foot ceilings
is a perfect living area extension with a Bar, Family Room, Exercise Court, and Spa Bath with steam
shower. The Second Floor, once four Bedrooms plus an Office and Laundry Room, was large enough to
allow each room to be re-configured. The end result is a now perfect Master Suite (partially thanks to a
new 300 square foot closet addition) plus three other generous EnSuite Bedrooms. New glamorous
lighting compliments every room. A front addition not only allowed more interior entry space but also a
revised exterior front entrance accentuated by the tan stone, black shingles and siding!
The new owners couldn’t be more thrilled with the end result and praises Nth Degree for the creativity,
workmanship, professionalism and beautiful new home; all during the COVID 19 year of 2020! Please
enjoy this walk through the before and after!

Dining Room
Previously the Kitchen, there was no Dining
Room per se in this house. Although the new
owners didn’t feel the need for a formal “Dining
Room” due to the open concept design,
entertaining and hosting dinner parties are still
an important part of their lifestyle. This
generously sized space worked out perfect for
a Dining table and conversation lounge
adjacent to the new Wine Bar.

Once the First Floor Laundry and open half
Bath (yes there was a toilet in the middle of this
room) now makes a perfect space for more
involved food prep or a spot for Caterers to
work on large gatherings! An additional set of
double ovens, refrigerator/freezer, and
dishwasher supports the main Kitchen when lots
of cooking and clean-up is underway!

Already one of the entire family’s favorite
spaces (including the four-legged members) this
outdoor living room is the perfect size and
location for the ultimate family gatherings
overlooking the large rear pond and
numerous towering white pines. The perfect
proportions allow for a comfortable seating
area facing the full stone wall wood burning
fireplace as well as a dining table that
comfortably seats 6. There is a wall of sliding
glass that opens the Great Room up into this
breath-taking outdoor space. The black walls
adjacent to the light stone and the cedar
ceiling works perfectly!

The avocado colors dated this home. The
black and tan feels much more apropos and
compliments the new, more contemporary
design. The additions (totaling over 1700
square feet) are well placed and complement
the existing house. The extensive outdoor
projects have resulted in a totally new feel
to the property removing the invasive species
and dead trees, and providing renewed life for
the existing landscape.
