“Every deed is not acceptable in the view of Allah
(SWT)”, what are the condition(s) for the deeds to be
righteous and acceptable in the view of Allah (SWT)?
 INTRODUCTION:-

Praise be to Allah, an action cannot be an act of worship unless it includes two

things: complete love and complete humility. Allah says (interpretation of the
meaning):

“But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else)”
[Al-Baqarah 2:165]

 QURAN & SUNNAH:-

In Saheeh Muslim (214) it is narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with
her) said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, during the Jaahiliyyah, Ibn Jud’aan
used to uphold the ties of kinship and feed the poor. Will that avail him
anything?’ He said, ‘It will not avail him anything because he never said, “O
Allah, forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement”.” – i.e., he did not believe
in the resurrection or do good deeds hoping to meet Allah. And Allah mentions
them together in the Aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on us
with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before us”

[Al-Anbiya’ 21:90]

Once this is understood, we will realize that worship can only be accepted from
a Muslim who believes in Allah alone (Tawheed), as Allah says (interpretation
of the meaning):

“And We shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, sinners) did, and
We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust”
[al-Furqaan 25:23]
 CONDITIONS:-
Moreover, the Muslim’s worship will not be accepted unless it
meets two basic conditions:

1 – Sincerity of intention towards Allah, which means that the person’s

intention in all his words and deeds, both outward and inward, is to seek the
pleasure of Allah and none other.

2 – It should be in accordance with the sharee’ah which Allah has prescribed,

and he should not worship Allah in any other way. That is achieved by
following the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and what he
brought, and shunning anything that goes against it, and not inventing any new
form of worship that has not been narrated in sound reports from the Prophet
(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The evidence for these two conditions is the aayah (interpretation of the
meaning):

“So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work
righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord”
[al-Kahf 18:110]

 ITS TYPE:-
The act of worship should agree with the Shari'ah in its type. If a
person worships Allah by an act of worship which is not acknowledged in the
Shari'ah it would not be acceptable.

Example: If a person slaughters a horse as a sacrificial animal during the month

of Dhul-Hij'jah (12th month in the Islamic calendar). This person's sacrificial
animal would not be accepted because he belied the Shari'ah in this point, since
sacrificial animals can only be a camel, cattle, goat or sheep.

 ITS STEPS:-
If a person wants to perform a prayer while considering it an
obligatory prayer, it would not be accepted since the obligatory prayers are
known in the Shari'ah. Likewise, if a person prays Dhuhr prayer five units, his
prayer would not be accepted.
 ITS METHOD:-

If a person makes wudhu and washes his feet first and then wipes his head, we
say that his wudhu is null and void, since one must make wudhu in sequence.

 ITS TIME:-

If a person sacrifices his sacrificial animal in the first days of Dhul-Hijjah his
sacrifice would not be accepted since he did not do it in the appropriate time.

 ITS PLACE:-

If a person makes I'tikaaf in other than a Masjid, his I'tikaaf would not be
correct since it should be done in a Masjid.

 RIGHTEOUS DEEDS:-
So when we perform any righteous deed, it is important to ask ourselves: “Am I
doing it the right way? Am I sincere in my actions? Is this worth presenting to
my Lord? And most importantly, will it be accepted by Him?”

Righteous deeds are not limited to Salah, Zakah, Saum and Hajj alone; they
cover all actions that we do as long as they meet the following conditions:
• one must be in a state of Iman
• the deed must be sincerely for Allah’s sake
• the deed must be done in accordance with the legislation of Allah and
Sunnah of the prophet

Therefore, what we say, do and forsake should be according to the law of Allah,
by following what the Prophet brought, and shunning anything that goes against
it, and not inventing any new form of worship. Even if we abstain from a sin out
of obedience to Allah SWT, the abstinence rises to the level of obedience and
we are rewarded for our steadfastness. Therefore, it is essential to have
knowledge about Allah (SWT) and how He wants us to worship Him.
 PRAISE TO ALLAH:-

An action cannot be regarded as an act of worship unless it meets two

conditions, namely perfect love and perfect humility. Allah says (interpretation
of the meaning):

“But those who believe, love Allah more (than anything else)”
[al-Baqarah 2:165]

“And they used to call on us with hope and fear, and used to humble
themselves before us”
[al-Anbiya’ 21:90]

If this is understood, then one will realize that worship is only accepted
from a Muslim who believes in Allah alone (Tawheed), as Allah says of
the kuffaar:

“And We shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, polytheists,

sinners) did, and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating
particles of dust”
[al-Furqan 25:23]

In Saheeh Muslim (214) it is narrated that Aa’ishah (may Allah be

pleased with her) said:

“I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, during the Jaahiliyyah Ibn Jud’aan used

to uphold ties of kinship and feed the poor. Will that avail him anything?’
He said, ‘It will not avail him anything, because he never said one day,

“O Lord forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement,” – meaning that

he did not believe in the resurrection or do good deeds hoping to meet
Allah.

Moreover, the Muslim’s worship will not be accepted unless it meets two
basic conditions:
1 – Sincerity of intention towards Allah alone, which means that a
person’s intention in all his words and actions, both outward and inward,
is to do them for the sake of Allah alone and no one else.
2 – The action must be in accordance with the laws which Allah has
enjoined and stated that He must be worshipped only in accordance with
them. This is achieved by following the Prophet (peace and blessings of
Allah be upon him) and the message he brought, and not going against
that or introducing new acts of worship or new forms of worship which
were not reported from him (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
The evidence for these two conditions is to be found in the aayah
(interpretation of the meaning):

“So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work
righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his
Lord”
[al-Kahf 18:110]

Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“ ‘So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord’ means His
reward; ‘let him work righteousness’ means actions that are done for
the sake of Allah alone, with no partner or associate. These two
factors form the basis for an acceptable deed: it must be done
sincerely for the sake of Allah alone, and it must be correct and in
accordance with the Sharee’ah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him).”

The more a person learns about his Lord and His names and attributes,
the more sincere he will be in his intentions. The more he learns about his
Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the more he will
follow him. By having a sincere intention towards Allah and by following
His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) he will attain
salvation in this world and in the Hereafter. We ask Allah for success and
salvation in this world and in the Hereafter.
