Statics
Space App Challenge

Every semester in the statics course the professor would give the student a
project to work on. For us, the professor told us to participate in the Space App
Challenge that took place in the university. The space App was a set of challenges to
choose from, what we chose was the “Small spaces, Big ideas”, the objective was to
use our engineering sense and ability to find solutions to any problem. The challenge
was to create crew- friendly design for a habitat and/or its multi-use furniture. the
design should respect the constraints such as the size, since it should not exceed 1200
square-foot. It should include multiple places such as a clinic in case of emergency,
lab to conduct researches, rooms for six people, shower, bathroom, kitchen, free time
area. We designed it in a Dome shape because it is more practical and easier to divide.
The dome consisted of two floors. Upper floor was mainly for the 6 rooms plus a
bedroom. For the lower floor was for the other things. While doing the project, we
used a lot of engineering tools such as Solidworks for creating the different elements
of the Dome such as chairs, refrigerator, tables etc. we also used Planner 5D that
helped us to design the rooms for the six people as well as the clinic, lab kitchen and
bathroom. To conclude the main objective of this project is to see how we can go
from brainstorming ideas to a concreate simulation of a project, in fact we had the
chance to apply our engineering knowledge.
