Our project is mainly about one kind of a recyclable building made out of bricks composed of
naturally occurring sand and polyethylene plastic. Our aim is to use the different methods and
knowledge acquired in Materials Science class to perform an environment friendly and efficient
composed material in these buildings. Due to the large amount of plastic waste and the difficult
conditions it requires to recycle it, a new method is found to make use of it without going
through the recycling process. The project in question is treating this problem by taking
polyethylene plastic from these wasted objects (water bottles, plastic cups, plastic bags…). As
learned in Materials class, the mixture of two given materials should be feasible to the usage.
Since the objective is a recyclable building with almost the same conditions as a standard
building, the sand is to be taken from rivers because of its smoothness and adaptability to our end
product. The bricks will go through a process and different tests afterwards (hardness, impact,
strength, water absorption…). The specific properties of the two materials used will be provided
later.
