Catalogue No. 2.
Relative to Construction and Quality.
Four things to consider (besides the price) when purchasing a desk are quality,

practical features, beauty of design and grade of finish in all of these points we
claim for "Macey" desks the highest type of excellence. We urge the closest
inspection and invite the severest comparison with desks of all other manufacture.
Man}' features of superiority in the construction of the "Macey" desk are identical
with this desk alone. We have endeavored to give herewith substantial reasons
why we claim for our desks all the features essential as a basis for our guarantee,

which we believe is as broad and as liberal as words can make it see page 1.

WRITING BED AND EXTENSION SLIDES

in every desk are of the best grade of built-up stock. This is the most expensive
but the most durable material that can be used for the purpose. It prevents warp-
ing, shrinking and cracking with use or in any climate. Our built-up stock is
made of several layers of hardwood laid crosswise one on the other and glued
together under immense pressure. For the most part our writing beds and extension
slides are framed inside, the writing bed frames having mitred joints. By framing
writing beds and extension slides, moisture cannot act upon the edges, causing that uneven
writing surface so often found in unframed stock.

PANELS.
Note that all —
panels of desks shown in this catalogue are bordered by moulded stiles not
square edges — thus producing a much richer effect than is found in desks having square edged
stiles. Method of construction is the most substantial
possible, the panels being tenoned into the stiles.

TOP.
For extra strength we use what is known as the "Double
Deck Top" which prevents all swelling and sagging of top
and, therefore, does away with all annoyance caused by the
interference of top with the curtain — the very best possible
construction.
I >r 3

DRAWERS.
All pedestal drawers have dovetailed joints; these drawers
have also our special anti- friction construction which prevents
binding. All drawers are varnished inside and have hardwood

ends and sides very easy running. Large drawers have adjust-
able partitions.

LETTER FILES.
Ever)' user of a desk must have some place to file his letters,
bills, receipts, orders, private papers, etc., where the}' can be
quickly found. One must leave his chair when making reference
to correspondence filed in a cabinet. How much better it is then
to have these files right in one's desk, within arm's reach say
nothing of saving in cost and space. This feature is not only practical, but adds greatly
to the appearance of a desk. All file drawers used in our desks have three-ply built-up
bottoms and are so constructed as to combine strength and lightness. Indexes are held stationary by nickle plated spindles.
When filled, letters can be transferred to any transfer case in a moment's time. (Our own are preferable.) Index perforations
are strongly reinforced. Index sheets are of heavy cream manilla and have bond tabs. Label holders are of solid brass. Any
arrangement of indexing desired can be supplied. (When drawers become filled, con-
tents are transferred to transfer volumes. We supply both the new indexes and the
necessary transfer volumes.

PIGEON-HOLE FILE BOXES.

We supply three kinds: First, with cloth fronts and cardboard body. Second, with
highly polished beveled quarter-sawed white oak front, having polished brass label
holder pull and cardboard body. Third, highly polished beveled quarter-sawed white oak
front with solid polished brass label holder pull and with quarter- sawed white oak sides
and three-ply birchwood tops and bottoms. The first is light but strong. The second
combines lightness and durability and presents the handsome effect of an all-wood box,
but is less heavy and less expensive. The third is conceded the most durable and certainly
it is a handsome article. The net prices for which we supply the above file boxes extra
in any desk are 10c, 15c. and 40c. respectively these net prices are subject to no dis-
;

counts whatever.
CASTERS.
Ball-bearing casters of the finest quality are used by us exclusively.
Each caster revolves on seven steel balls, running so lightly that a desk can
be moved about with even one hand, making it easy to clean under the desk.

"K. D." (OR SECTIONAL) CONSTRUCTION.

Any desk can be taken through a doorway as narrow as 20 inches by
merely removing a few screws. This construction adds strength to a desk,
and makes it very easy to carry a desk up stairs, to remove it from one
room to another, etc. This constructiou is so simple that a desk can be put
together in but a few minutes. This construction secures also the lowest
freight rates, and reduces cost of exporting to foreign countries to a minimum.

LOCKS.
Only the best grade of Yale desk locks are used. Lowering the curtain locks all the drawers and curtain automatically,
unlocking and raising the curtain unlocks the drawers automatically. A spring plate gives an unbroken surface to the writing
bed when the desk is unlocked. We claim our improved automatic locking arrangement the best ever devised.

The foregoing are some of the substantial and practical features which identify "Macey"
desks and make them the standard for high quality and convenience. The finish we give
every article is something that must be seen to be appreciated and for this reason we are
always glad to ship any article "on approval" for personal inspection, subject to all the
conditions of our "guarantee" given on page 1.

"Macey" No. 7 " D."
(patented.)
(Construction described and illustrated on pages 3, 4 and 5.)

Never before has a combination typewriter desk been offered possessing such superior features of merit as the "Macey"
No. 7. No other desk is so thoroughly practical. The common typewriter desk breaks up the writing bed, thus disturbing
papers and making it necessary to clear off the desk to use the machine, or pulls out the whole pedestal or places the typewriter
on an unsteady bed when in use or necessitates the handling of the machine or is always getting out of order or is inconvenient
for stenographer when taking dictation or the pigeon-holes (in roll top desks) are partly covered up when machine is in use,
etc., etc. This pedestal arrangement, however, avoids all these numerous defects so apparent in other desks. The machine is
instantly brought into use (action easy) and when not in use is under lock and key and perfectly dust proof. The superior
utility of this desk, together with its durable construction and artistic design, coupled with its small cost, combine to make the
"Macey" No. 7 unquestionably the king of typewriter desks.

SPECIAL FEATURES Unbroken writing bed; economy of space; simplicity of construction; rigidity of machine in use;
center drawer; any size machine can be used.
