The meaning of Discourse Analysis according to :

1. Gillian Brown & George Yule 1983

The analysis discourse is necessarily l, the analysis of language in use. As such, it


cannot be restricted to the description of linguistic forms independent of the
purpose or functions which those forms are designed to serve in human affairs.

2. MCCarthy, Michael, 1991

Discourse analysis is concerned with the study of the relationship between


language and the contexts in which it is used. McCarthy tells how discourse
analysis developed as an academic subject over the past half a century. He gives
details as to how the American, British and other writers contributed to the
development of this field of academics

Discourse analysis is how the language use carries the meaning with the context
beyond the communication.

4. Teun A. Van Dijk 1985

Discourse analysis is used scholarly in particularly humanities and social sciences.


The assumption of such analyses is that ideologies of authors or reporters may be
brought to light by attentive reading, understanding or systematic analysis, if
language users xonsciously by means of language and communication.
