Last time we talked about concept paper.

Concept paper is a project that we plan to address an

issue or problem. We put into writing the plans that we conceptualize and present it to the
funders to be implemented.
Today, we’ll talk about position paper. now, what is position paper.
- It is somehow like writing an argumentative essay wherein you are proving your point.
Your charge here is to choose a side on a particular topic/issue.
The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and worth
listening to.
Now let’s go to the characteristics of an effective position paper
1. Of course, in all academic writing, clarity of the statement, particularly, thesis statement
is very important. Your tone and knowledge about the topic would define how much you
know about the position you are taking/defending.
- As you can observe, this statement is too wordy and its ambiguous. So, we should avoid
this one. Another is we must avoid flowery words in our position paper as well as jargon
or colloquial language. Because again, we are writing a professional paper.
2. When we say facts, studies and authentic and verifiable data is required. For example, if
Manny Paquiao endorses alaxan, whatever he says about it does not guarantee facts to
the advertisement as other might have different experience in using this product. So,
meaning that no matter who the endourser is, it wont make him reliable to that fact,
unless it really is.
3. Without clincher or conclusion, your people looks like a tail that has been cut off. It’s
incomplete. Not being able to clinch means you’re not able to grasp what the entire
position is about. Conclusion is as important as the thesis statement. If you cannot start
without thesis statement, you cannot end without clincher or conclusion
4. Since we are taking side in a position paper it is just necessary that we provide possible
solutions to the issues that we are discussing about.
