Purpose of a trial class:

Parent’s need: 1. 2-6, to develop their interest in English learning—the class needs to be fun
2. 7-12, to talk more in English with foreigners
3. 13-18, to pass exams at school; to talk more in English with foreigners
Introduction
Do 1-2 warm-up activities apart from asking regular questions. Use high 5 once and reward once.

For kids:
1. dancing or singing
2. do a magic trick
3. show them their favorites
……
Lesson proper
Have 1-2 extra activities
For kids:
1. vocabulary activities: loud and soft voice/rolling dice/writing words on board/drawing
2. use different rewards other than trophies in Class in.
3. do high five/fist bump 3 times
4. use props or manycam to teach the words
5. speak Chinese (especially for 3-6 years-old) or use translation when the student can’t
understand
6. always type and guide the student to speak in complete sentences when correcting them

Interact with the parent:


1. greet the parent at the beginning
2. ask for parent’s help when the student can’t understand the instructions

Feedback and soft-selling


Invite the parent and do it in both Chinese and English.
Do not use a powerpoint for this part

-invite the parent for this part. If the parent isn’t around, tell student to call him/her. The correct
Chinese is “可以叫妈妈或者爸爸过来吗?can you call mom or dad?”
-after finishing the lesson, praise the student first (2-3 sentences)
-evaluate the student’s English level. Point out the weakest area of the student in English
compared to those at the same age (vocabulary? Pronunciation? sentence construction? Grammar?
Select one or two. Make sure that it comes with examples and details)
-provide effective suggestions on how you can improve the student’s weakest area with the book
if he/she enrolls at Acadsoc.
