An Insight : IEP FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER AND INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

The vlog is about a family who happened to have a child with special needs. It shows the

important role of parents in the overall success on the IEP of their children and how should

they be hands on when it comes tracking the progress. I think it is not really easy for the

parents especially that in the vlog, the child has two issues, she had autism spectrum disorder

and at the same time intellectual disability. Her autism IEP brought her to develop some areas

that it does not affect her academic performance anymore. The people involved in the team

including the parents participation brought it into a success, but then the child has intellectual

disability and it became the reason why she is left behind in some aspects. I did not know

before that it was possible for a child to acquire two or perhaps more disability in one time but

the people behind this coping up was so great on doing each of their responsibility for the

child’s improvement. It is also being followed the confidentiality of each results for its own

privacy, the reason that any result of assessment on the child must not be fully exposed in

public. Parents has something to do more on their child process of IEP as like how the mother

talks about the way of how she is getting involved must be taken personally without the limit

of suggestions and knowing what could be the best for their child as no one could ever do that

but them. Having or dealing with children with any disorder is a bit demanding for efforts,

patience and understanding , most especially the love and acceptance coming from the

environment of the child.
