80% of the results from

20% of the effort.
Welcome to the 5-point Productivity First Aid Kit.

This PDF is designed to introduce 5 high-leverage principles and practices

that you can use right away to drive up your productivity by several
notches. It's inspired by Pareto's 80/20 principle which states that you can
get 80% of the output with only 20% of what you put in (and the other 20%
comes if you dedicate the other 80% of the effort, but that's for a later
conversation).

This is designed to be short and potent. It will be easy to gloss over like
"Yeah I got it, yeah I know all of this already." But if you really take and
apply this material, you will likely be blown away by the improvements you
see in your productive life.

How this will go:

Point 1: Forgiveness, Acceptance, Respect

Point 2: The Most Important Thing
Point 3: Have a Plan Every Day
Point 4: Overcome Procrastination Properly
Point 5: Completion

Forgiveness,
Acceptance, & Respect
This is productivity "ground zero". It's so basic that almost everyone misses
it, but if you take a moment now for forgiveness, acceptance, and
respect then you effectively untether yourself from your past, so that you
do not need to repeat it anymore.

Forgiveness - Who or what do you need to forgive? What has happened

that you never forgave yourself for? Forgiveness is wellness. If you don't
forgive, you hold onto negativity, creating blockages, suffering,
stagnation. Honestly, what value do you get from non-forgiveness? Set an
intention now to forgive. Say "I am willing to forgive myself/them for
[BLANK]. So be it."

Acceptance - What about you or your life is it time to accept? To accept

doesn't mean that you like this or want things to stay this way... To accept
means you allow the thing to be as it is now. It's a declaration of utter
sanity. To let reality be as it is. To say 'yes' to life as it is. You cannot
change anything before first accepting. Set an intention now to accept.
Say "I hereby accept that [BLANK] is so. I allow it to be. So be it."

Respect - You will be rejected by anything or anyone you don't respect,

including yourself. If you wish to stop sabotaging yourself, you'll need to
respect yourself. Start by just finding something about you (or another)
that you can respect. Respect is the lubricant that allows things to become
easier. Respect your job, your family, your environment. Set an intention to
respect something that challenges you. Say "I am willing to respect
[BLANK]. I'm willing to learn how. So bet it.

The Most Important

Thing
Forgiveness, acceptance and respect act as a powerful agent for clearing
up tons of unnecessary mental clutter. It allows us to imagine something
new, instead of constantly referencing the past.

Now let's ask "What is the most important thing?" Please answer the
following questions:

What do you most want to accomplish over the next few months?
What would be the biggest win?
If you accomplished all of this, what would that mean for you?
What would become possible then?
What would be the best part about all of this?
Why did you choose that as the best part?

If you answer these questions, then you'll get a peak into your deepest
personal motivations. Choose the most important thing for you to
accomplish in these times. Commit to it now.

Have a Plan, Every Day

If you enter into your day without a plan, then you're like a ship without a
rudder. You won't be focused; your attention will be pulled in every which-
way.

Start each day knowing what you need to do.

Here's the secret: the most important thing is almost never urgent. We may
have deadlines closing in on us, and things we need to do ASAP... but the
thing that will really move us up to the next level can wait and wait and
wait.

It's up to you to prioritize this one thing, to make sure that you give it some
attention every day. Ask yourself: what's the one most important thing
that I must do every day? And put that right at the front! Give it the first
30-60 minutes of your day, AND THEN you can get to the more urgent
stuff.

This will give you a sense of being on track, on purpose, living at your
highest potential.

This way, time will be on your side. With each passing day, you will be
evolving into higher and better versions of yourself.

Overcome
Procrastination
Properly
There is a proper and improper way of overcoming procrastination.

The improper way is to force, push, or attempt to "just get through"

whatever you're trying to get through. Attempting to 'push through' an
activity is unsustainable. You can get away with it once or twice, but not in
the long run. When you do this, you are in conflict with yourself. You
always lose in this conflict.

The proper way is leading - instead of bullying - yourself. Suppose you

have been procrastinating on some important piece of work. Stop and
listen to yourself. Ask "what about this task makes me want to
procrastinate?" Answers you may get:

- I don't know how to do it.

- I might mess it up.
- I dislike this task.

When you get your answer, see if you can change the task in some
favourable way. Perhaps it can be made more enjoyable, or you can learn
more about how to do it.

Failing that, accept that this task must be done. At minimum choose to do
this task, deliberately, so that you no longer have to. This will help.

07

Completion
Train yourself to arrive at completion.

Completion is not perfection. Something can be complete and be far from

perfect. The idea is to arrive at a place of doneness so that you can look at
it, evaluate, learn, and move onto the next iteration. If you don't arrive at
completion, then it's like pouring hours of effort into an essay, only to lose
it because you didn't hit 'save'.

It begins with saying you're going to do something. Suppose you're going

to get to bed and wake up on time 5 days in a row. Suppose you
accomplish this on Mon, Tues, and Weds, but not on Thur and Fri. Complete
the task by taking a moment to look back and review. Don't abandon the
task. Otherwise your efforts will be wasted.

Now with the first week completed, you can learn, and then say "Last
week I got 3 of 5 days right. I wonder if I can go for 4 of 5 in this
upcoming week." ... and go on from there.

Give yourself a series of tasks for the day, today. Do them to the best of
your ability, and then review at the end. This is completion.

From HERE, adjust the difficulty of whatever was assigned so that it

matches where you are now. Focus on finding your challenge boundary -
that is, exactly what your abilities are right now.

It's through regular completion that you can cultivate self-discipline, self-
respect, self-trust, and confidence.
