Grapes Cultivation

3
Grape ( Vitis vinifera L.)
 Grapes are well known for their economic values around the globe.

 Total area for grapes cultivation is approximately 7,568,600 hectares

with a 2% increase per year (Urbi et al., 2014).

 Major grapes producing countries are China, France, Italy, Spain,

Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Argentina, Chile, Australia and
South Africa.

 Grapes need cool winter and relatively dry summer, with temperature
ranging from 15°C to 40°C.

 Grapes required a pH of soil ranges from 5.5-7.0 for its best cultivation
and production (Zabadal, 2002) 4
Aims
Introduction of suitable crop (Grapes) in suitable place at suitable
time

1. To find out the suitable Grape varieties, suitable soil and micro
climatic conditions for propagation and extension in semi-arid
subtropical and dry temperate regions of FATA Pakistan.

2. To introduce viticulture in Dry Temperate Ecological Zone of FATA

in particular and adjacent areas in general.

3. To alleviate poverty by enhancing the socioeconomic status of

people of FATA through viticulture development and to Bring
FATA region to the mainstream development in the scenario of
Vision 2025.
