Progress I have made during this week

(Don’t forget to provide a breakdown of time spent on each item listed)

● Watched youtube videos about how to shade properly and how people get inspiration
for their work/the creative process- 1 hour
● Used what I learned about shading to draw a character from a game (drew on an 8.5
by 11 inch paper) - 3 hours
● Watched tutorials about and practiced calligraphy (pictures of cards I made using
what I learned below)- 1 hour

What I need to move forward with my Capstone (time, space, materials, contacts)
● To move forward with my Capstone I need to spend more time working on drawings
that I can use as content on my website. I realized that making content will take a lot
longer than expected because learning how to improve my work and then trying to
apply that in my drawings takes longer than expected. On top of that, since I am still
learning I will make lots of mistakes and might not necessarily want to post all of the
drawings I made on my website. Because of this, I need to dedicate as much time as
possible towards drawing
● I also need to dedicate some time towards researching how to make a website so I
can plan out how I will make it and manage my time according to how long I expect it
to take.
● I need to get some pencil crayons since I want to try using pencil crayons in a
drawing
● I do not need to contact anyone for the drawing portion of my project, but will
consider contacting someone if I have questions related to coding
● I do not need any additional space for my Capstone as of now

Obstacles I have encountered and how I’ve moved forward:

● For me the main obstacle I encountered this week was having the confidence to try
new ideas in my work. However, watching videos on Youtube about the creative
process and fails that all artists inevitably make helped me become more confident in
myself
● I was also struggling to shade my drawing properly so I watched tutorials online
about shading

Obstacles I can foresee in my next steps:

● One of the obstacles I can foresee in my next steps is estimating how long coding my
website will take so that I can manage my time accordingly
○ It will be hard to actually start coding the website now, as I still have more
drawings I’m going to make and I want to plan what my website will look like
according to what content I have. I will research anyways to find out what my
options are and how long coding a website will likely take me

The skills I’ve used and what I’ve learned:

● I gained confidence in my ability to shade and make images “pop” out of the page
instead of looking completely flat and 2D
○ My first attempt at drawing the character was terrible, but I am proud of how I
was able to progress and change the drawing to make it something that I like
more
● I learned how to do some basic calligraphy using basic school supplies most people
have (sharpies, fineliners, markers)
● I also have improved my ability to use my ideas in my drawings
○ I used to be afraid of trying new ideas, but one video in particular that I
watched changed my mindset. In the video, a youtuber tried an idea she had
for a painting even though she wasn’t sure if she’d like it, ended up hating it,
then picked the project back up later to try to revamp it, and kept working on it
until she loved it. Seeing the whole process made me realize that it's normal
for people to not like what they make on their first attempt and that it’s fine for
me to try new ideas even if I think I might not like the result

My goals and deadlines for the next week:

● My first goal that I want to have completed by December 30th is to have researched
how I can go about coding a website and find out what my options are for how to
make the website. I want to know how I will host the website, what languages I need
to learn more about, and get an approximation of how long it will take to make so that
I can manage my time accordingly.
● Another goal that I have which I want to complete by January 2nd is to make a
drawing using pencil crayons

My evidence of progress. This includes but is not limited to: diagrams, screenshots,
photos, videos, rough drafts, schedules, meeting notes, mind maps, etc
