Problem Statement
A problem statement is usually described in a few sentences to explain the problem your proposed
idea will address. In general, a problem statement will outline the negative points of the current

situation and explain why this matters. The goal of the Problem statement is to define the problem
being addressed in a way that's clear and precise. Problem statement should not suggest a solution.
Proposed Solution
The proposed solution must have the ability to address the identified problem to a major extent. It
must be the one of the best alternative to the identified problem. Description of the proposed solution
must be presented here.
Feasibility of solution (SMART) must be kept in mind while describing the solution.
(a) Specific- How specifically the proposed solution resolves the identified problem?
(b) Measurable- Whether the proposed solution is measurable and step wise approach towards
innovation is followed
(c) Attainable- Clarity of team. Is the team competent enough to develop the solution and achieve its
objectives?
(d) Realistic- Given the resources available, how realistic is the team’s approach to achieve the
solution in time bound manner?
(e) Timeline- How confident is the team with the proposed solution & timeline to complete the
prototype (TRL 2 or TRL 3 in 2-3 months)
TRL 1: Basic research. Principles postulated observed but no experimental proof available.
