INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Study

Taking attendance is an undertaking that requires time, (Conrad, 2017). The larger

the population, potentially, the more time required. This investigation targets structuring

and building up a barcode-based student attendance system utilizing PHP, a server-side

content programming language. In this research, the proposed attendance system will be

an identification card type of which the barcode is affixed to. The main hardware that is

to be used is the barcode scanner. This barcode scanner is used in order to read a barcode.

A Barcode is a machine- readable representation of information in a visual format. A bar

code consists of a series of parallel, adjacent bars and spaces. By scanning the barcodes

of the teachers that they have the researchers would provide. The scanner will go over the

card to scan the teachers’ code upon entering the school premises. The records of the

teachers will then be saved on an Excel format that can be sent out effectively to a PC.

An Excel summary sheet will likewise be created to distinguish the quantity of absences

every teacher has acquired. On the off chance that the educator has accumulated a few

absences, the year level chair would be notified of these absences where a remediation

plan will be defined. As awareness increases about the usefulness of these codes, we can

anticipate that they should be utilized in progressively public domain (Singh, 2016). The

advancement of the framework is intended for the improvement of school's personnel

attendance monitoring, making it proficient as far as time, recording, and inclusion.

Attendance record plays a huge job in the scholastic accomplishment of school

students and personnel, specially its teachers. Attendance management is an essential

requirement for every school, college and educational institute. Automation of the

attendance system frees the teaching authorities from mundane tasks and saves precious

classroom time that can be invested in teaching the students.

The greater part of the schools these days are executing mechanized methods and

procedures to meet their developing needs, and it tends to be best characterized by

generally utilized of PCs and different gadgets. Automation of the attendance system

liberates the authorities from mundane tasks and spares valuable time that can be put

resources into teaching of the students, (Fedarian, 2018). Attendance is a time record of

the populace present during events, for the most part characterized as methodical precise

all. It is a commitment of each individual as fullest potential. It is imperative to the

understudies and educators to keep up their participation from school or work.

1.9 Review of Related Literature

Related Literature

Attendance is the demonstration or actuality of visiting (being present at) school.

Likewise, participation is utilized to characterize the quantity of people present on a

specific day at school. An attendance policy gives the rules and expectations to the

attendance at school as characterized, written, disseminated, and executed by the school.

Moreover, attendance can be recorded from multiple ways. There are various

proposition for Automatic Attendance Management Systems in the writing and in the

market. These days, barcodes are much of the time utilized in many enterprises, grocery

stores, and any place data should be perused consequently.

Shoewu, Olaniyi, and Lawson (2011) proposed an electronic card-based answer

for the attendance issues in higher institutions in the developing nations. This framework

utilized a single-chip PC based on subsystems interfaced sequentially to the sequential

port of the advanced PC. A portion of the limitations of this framework are that not all PC

frameworks have serial port.

Mahyidin (2008) additionally proposed student attendance management

framework utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The framework utilizes

student card to grant or deny the student from gauging attendance. This strategy

additionally didn't recognize individual based on who he/she is which along these lines,

can prompt impersonation.

Victor, Jonathan, Reece, and Lemire (2003) displayed a framework that depends

on student wolf pack club tracking system to improve the procedure of student wolf pack

club ticket appropriation for athletic occasions. This framework didn't, in any case,

coordinate any part of student participation checking.

In another case, Saraswat and Kumar (2010), proposed fingerprint check method

in gauging attendance. Their proposed framework utilizes fingerprint verification by

utilizing extraction of minutiae technique and system that automates the entire procedure

of gauging participation.

Xue (2009), talks about a prototype system that utilizes facial recognition

technology to screen and validate client or understudy for participation taking. A neural

system-based calculation was actualized to do confront location, and an eigen face

technique was utilized to perform facial acknowledgment. The test results exhibit the

attainability of close constant ceaseless client check for significant level security data

frameworks.

Related Study

Within these few years, the utilization of technology has become rapidly quicker

than we would ever envision, Maleriado and Carreon (2018). Consistently, new

technological thoughts developed that are more intelligent, imaginative, and affordable
(Lamey, 2018). With all these technological assets that we have or accessible, is there

any way we can use them as a major aspect of the instructive procedures? In the

instructive world, our understudies have grasped this thought since they were pretty

much nothing. It tends to be said that understudies these days are computerized locals

where they are as of now presented to cutting edge innovation, for example, PCs,

computer games, and web, while educators are viewed as advanced settlers since they

were not naturally introduced to the computerized part of the new innovation

(Santisteban, 2017).

A striking work has done by Subramaniam, Hassan and Widyarto (2015) on

"Understudy Attendance System (SAS)" at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK)

Dato Harun, Kuala Selangor, Malaysia This paper disclosed how to supplant the

manual participation recording process at schools in Malaysia. SAS can decrease the

time spent by educator in figuring the level of participation for an understudy just as

for a class. SAS been actualized into one of the auxiliary school in Selangor territory

of Malaysia. The understudy previously been furnished with understudy card which

contain standardized tag. Understudy participation recording process been appointed

to the individuals who mindful to include the information. Client acknowledgment

testing directed among scarcely any client classes before the framework being

discharged into the creation. The estimation is on the fulfillment of the client towards

understudy participation framework. Subjective examination utilized in deciding the

adequacy of the framework. Meeting strategy used to accumulate the data on the
client fulfillment. School participation decides the scholarly accomplishment of an

understudy.

An application required by a large portion of the schools in Malaysia so as to

guarantee proficient participation record keeping. Understudy participation

framework (SAS) that created for optional school expected to supplant the manual

participation recording process at schools in Malaysia. SAS can diminish the time

spent by educator in ascertaining the level of participation for an understudy just as

for a class. In a tick of catch instructor can create report anytime of time. Also,

understudy's picture which showed after the checking procedure expected to assist

educator with recognizing understudies before record their participation. During SAS

propelling session, client acknowledgment test has been directed and input from

potential clients being assembled. Input given by clients featured scarcely any issues

that need a thought from SAS advancement group.

In table 3.1.1 shows the consistency of the results in terms of accuracy when it

comes to barcode scanning, the table shows that it has a mean of 3.00 which is being

interpreted as high and as for the ten trials being conducted per sample, it shows a

straight “High” results. As for table 3.1.2 shows the effectiveness of detection of barcode

scanning in terms of detection, the table shows that it has a mean of 2.7 which is also

been interpreted as “high” only the majority of the trials results to 3 and some are 2

which is considered as an average so the detection part is not a perfect 3. And as for

table 3.1.3 which shows the length time for the barcode scanner to consume for it to scan

and decode the barcode from the id, it has a mean of 2.6 which is been interpreted as

“high” but it like table 3.1.2, the table 3.1.3 did not get a perfect 3 in straight when it

comes to trial. All in all the generated application and the generated id in purpose of

attendance checking is highly compatible.

In accordance to the statement of Conrad (2017), in is passage which states that

by the help of technology, somehow, technology can be some sort of help. The study

inclines to the gist of his work which in this study uses a utilize application with the help

of a barcode to hasten the checking of attendance, because according to the study, a lot of

time allotted for discussion has been consumed just by checking the attendance (Singh,

2016).

1.2 Factors that can affect the Credibility of the Result

Table 3.2.1

Mean Std. Deviation N

Detection 2.7000 .48305 10
Delay of Detection 2.6000 .51640 10

As shown on tables above, it focuses on the factors that may affect the credibility

of the test results that has been conducted. On table 3.2.1 it shows the connection of

detection rate of the barcode scanner application and the accuracy of the result that has

been developed, based on the table, the Detection rate has a mean of 2.7 as the accuracy

of the result that is been developed by the detection is 3.0. Moreover on table 3.2.2,

shows the connection between the detection rate of the barcode scanner application to the

barcode and the length of time consumption, it shows that the detection rate mean is 2.7

as the length of consumed time scanning has the mean of 2.6.

As stated in the article of Santisteban (2017) , even though technology makes the

work easier that it has to be, credibility and monitoring is still a factor to consider,

technology might make things easier up but a programs mind is not as versatile as human

mind. As shown in the tables above, the detection rate and the length of time

consumption of barcode scanning might not affect the accuracy of the result but the delay
of time can also affect the detection rate of the barcode scanner application, the longer

the length of time consumed, the lower its detection rate. So as a result, further

adjustments should be applied and like stated, technology needs time to adjust and

monitoring and a series of observation should always be follow (Subramaniam, Hassan

and Widyarto, 2015).

Chapter 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION

4.1 Summary

The research study aims to generate an application that will hasten the process of

attendance checking, and its product will be the production of SF2 forms which has been the

problem of the advisers in every end of the month. The study will generate an application and an

identification card with a barcode on it which will be used by the students to scan the id to the

adviser’s phone that will generate an SF2 form automatically. The sampling procedure is quota

sampling of which as suggested by the research adviser to have a total of 10 sample size, and be

later o be analyze through spss which will help to identify the mean, standard deviation , and the

correlation of the factors that might affect the credibility of the results.

4.2 Research Findings

The following findings are obtained based on the analysis and interpretation of data.

1. Based on the table, the accuracy of the 10 trials coincides with each other, meaning there is

no problem in the accuracy of the inputted data.

2. As shown on the table, the detection rate sometimes fail to get the expected frequency of

detection by the application but the majority of the results is met with the expectation.

3. The length of time consumed in detection depends on the effectiveness of the barcode

(detection rate), they holds a strong connection that is directly proportional.

4. The factor accuracy, is not affected by the other factors like detection rate and the length of

detection, no matter how long or how frequent the detection is, as long as the inputted data
in every student is correct the production of accurate date is met.

5. In detection rate, it affects the length of detection time of the barcode, since based on the

results whenever the detection rate is decrease (2.7) the length of time consumed also

decreases (2.6)

4.3 Conclusions

Based on the findings above, the following conclusions are drawn:

1. There should be no problem when it comes to the accuracy of the report being generated by

the apps, because it is independent to the detection rate of the app.

2. The relationship of the effectiveness of the detection rate of the app is directly proportional

to the length of time consumed scanning the barcode of the id.

3. The relationship of the three factors is not all connected, only the detection rate and the

length of time consumed is dependent to each other, the accuracy did not hold close ties to

the two factors.

4.4 Recommendation

As synthesized from the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations were

made:

1. As the researcher conducted the duration of the study, the researcher find a difficulty in the

following: programing, conceptualizing and reconsidering, so it is recommended before

taking this type of research be sure to have an ample or even a wider range of knowledge in

this area.

2. During the conduct of the research, since it is an offline tool, it lacks of security, so it is
recommended that somehow add an additional security so that this study will both be secure

and reliable.

3. It is recommended for the administration to give more importance in attendance checking

especially to the production of SF2 every ends of the month, for this will take a toll for the

advisers specially to the multi tasked teachers.

4. It is recommended for the next research to reconsider the factors being used, additional

factors for security might be able to apply.

5. It is recommended that in order for the application or study to be improved, it will be a lot of

costly so but in exchange the study will be more reliable, so try to make this application

online or accessible by the parents or students of a kind.
