The Bontoc Legend of Lumawig (An Excerpt)

Narratives recalling stories of adventures, wars, and heroic deeds are called legends. These stories are regarded as
true by the teller and the audience and are held important by the community. While legends usually involve activities
done by humans with supernatural abilities or fantastical activities, legends can also include local tales and
supernatural elements (Eugenio, 1993).

The legend you will be reading in the next section features a god revered by the Bontoc Igorots. As you read the
text, try to identify the qualities and actions that the main character presented that made him worthy of such praise
and adoration.
