Unit 1 Lesson 4 Homework

1. Point A (0,3) lies on the graph of y=f(x). State the image of the point A on the transformed

graph 𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥 − 6) + 10.

2. The graph of y=g(x) is shown below. Sketch the graph of y=g(x+3)−2.

3. Given the function defined by ℎ(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 − 6𝑥 + 9,

a. Sketch the graph of y=h(x).

b. Sketch the image of y=h(x) after undergoing the transformation defined by the mapping

(𝑥, 𝑦) → (𝑥 − 4, 𝑦 − 2)

c. State the equation of the image of y=h(x) after the transformation in part b.

d. State the range of the transformed function.

4. Sketch the graph of each of the following functions. On your sketch, identify any intercepts
and/or asymptotes.
a. 𝑦 = |𝑥 + 1| + 3

b. 𝑦 = √𝑥 − 2 − 4
1
c. 𝑦 = 𝑥+6 + 4

d. 𝑦 = 2𝑥−2 − 1

5. For some function 𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥), the domain is {x∣x≤3,x∈R}, and the range is {y∣−5≤y≤5,y∈R}.

If 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑓(𝑥 + 10) − 2, state the domain and range of g(x).

6. Given 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 − 6𝑥 + 18 and 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 12 , determine the transformation that would

take the graph of y=g(x) to the graph of y=f(x). Algebraically verify your transformation by

applying it to g(x).
