ABSTRACT

This study aimed to review the Brazilian Scientific Literature in terms of the reasons for tooth loss in the
adult population and, besides that, in identifying the proposed actions to minimize tooth loss.

In this article, we talk about an integrative review of the literature.

The bibliographic resources used by the researcher was based on articles published between 1995 and
2011, in the databases at (The Virtual Health Library (VHL), Latin American and Caribbean Health
Sciences Information Center (BIREME), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and
Caribbean Health Science Literature (LILACS), and in complementary documents of the Ministry of
Health, regardless of the research method used.
