    STUDY GUIDE: WEEK 5 (3 hours), 8-13 Oct 2020

    LECTURE TOPIC: AGRICULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

    Activity 1

    Self-study. By the end of this week you are expected to know the answers to these questions:

    1. How does agroecosystems differ from natural ecosystems?


    2. How does soil contribute to each of the four components of biodiversity?
    3. What are the environmental impacts of agriculture?
    4. What are the advantages/disadvantages of alternative agricultural methods?
    5. What are genetically modified organisms/crops/food and their possible environmental effects?

    Read & understand the lecture notes and consult the references listed there as needed
    .

    Activity 2

    Reflection paper. Write a reflection paper about the topic discussed this week. Be specific. Write what
    you used to think about or know, what you know now, and what you are not sure of or what you want to
    learn more.

    This paper is worth 5 points and should be done individually. Your answer should not exceed 400
    words. Save your file in pdf with this format SURNAME_Reflection paper1.pdf. Deadline of submission
    is 14 Oct 2020. Submit in the designated dropbox in UVLE.
