THE PRESENT PERFECT

The PRESENT PERFECT is formed with a present tense form of “to have” plus the past
participle of the verb (which can be either regular of irregular in form). This tense indicates
either that an action was completed (finished or “perfected”) at some point in the past or
that extends to the present.

EXAMPLE

 I have walked two miles already [ but I´m still


 I have run the Boston Marathon [ but that was some time ago]
 The critics have praised the film Saving Private Ryan since it came out [and they
continue to do so]

We use “for” to talk about a period of time

NEVER, EVER, JUST, YET AND ALREADY

EVER

We use in the interrogative sentences

For examples

NEVER

We use never in affirmative sentences but the meaning is negative

For example

I have never cheated in an exam

My son has never been to Moscow

My brother has never gone to London

JUST

We use just to express a recently completed action

For example

The cat has just caught a bird

The guests have just arrived

I have just finished my homework

ALREADY

We use in to express that something has happened sooner than expected

For example
Don´t forget to bring your book! Oh, I have already brought it

The boys are going to pack, aren´t they? No, they have already packed

Is Dam going to buy a new car? No, he has already bought it

YET

We use it in interrogative sentences. It suggests a time later than expected

For example

Have you done your homework? No, I haven´t done it yet

Has your father seen your report? No, he hasn´t seen it yet

Have the visitors arrived? No, they haven´t arrived yet
