    Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

    Indira Gandhi was murdered by her Sikh bodyguards, as a result of the Operation Blue Star
    which was undertaken by the Indian Army. The Operation was to settle the law and order
    situation in Punjab. Indira Gandhi ordered military operation to remove Sikh militants who were
    accumulating weapons in the Golden Temple in Amritsar.Operation Blue Star was carried out
    between June 1 and June 8, 1984, in Amritsar.

    The operation took place after the rise of the Khalistan movement in India which was a political
    Sikh nationalist movement that aimed at creating an independent state for Sikhs inside the
    current North Western republic of India
