The Rooftop Garden

The photos in the table are some of the images taken during our field trip in Bancod Indang,
Cavite. The purpose of our field trip is to showcase the rooftop garden of the sibling of our professor in
Agricultural Extension And Communication. It was astonishing to see the whole roof top with full of
different kinds of plants that can normally be seen on farms and orchards, they even have an improvised
greenhouse which I think makes it different to other rooftop garden that I saw. Based from my
observation to our field trip, the rooftop garden is one of great ideas to do especially if you’re living in an
urban area because even when the space is limited you can still grow plants on the top of your house
which not only benefits the environment but at the same time you can gain from it also, due to the
increasing population and the conversion of farmland to residential, rooftop garden can be a solution to
food shortages , temperature control, hydrological benefits, architectural enhancement, habitats or
corridors for wildlife, recreational opportunities, and in large scale it may even have ecological benefits. .
The idea of rooftop garden proves that if you want to plant or grow crops, the area or lot is not a problem
you just need to use your own creativity and maximize your resources and nothing is impossible. The
rooftop garden proves that the filipino’s are the most inventive and imaginative despite the lack of
resources they can make the most out of it.
