Summary

A garden in every home is a home-based activity wherein NSTP-CWTS

students are required to create a garden and plant either ornamental plants or

vegetables to earn extra money by marketing the fruit of their plants or the

plant itself if it is ornamental, and at the very least reduce their household

expenditure. Thus, this coursework aims to help CWTS students develop and

practice their entrepreneurial, resourcefulness, and ingenuity skills while

generating extra revenue, food products, and becoming environmentalists.

Starting my gardening phase, I decided to grow ornamental plants in my

garden since I only have limited space for gardening. At first, I only have a few

ornamental plants. I manage to make them alive as I properly nurture them—I

water them every day, put organic fertilizers, and make sure that they gain

enough nutrients to thrive and grow faster.

Weeks after, the population of plants in my garden continuously

increases and my plants are also continuously developing. Luckily, I didn't

encounter any hindrances yet, so nothing interferes during the development

process of my plants. I still make sure that they gain enough sunlight and

nutrients to survive and develop faster.

Progress on April 1, the population of the plants in my garden increased,

and they continued to bloom. Additionally, I still have not encountered any

hindrances, such as insects and weather changes that may cause my plants to

die.

2
It is indeed that this activity will make you exercise and develop your

entrepreneurship, resourcefulness, and ingeniousness skills while generating a

profit and food products. It exercises your creativity and resourcefulness as

they are needed for you to break any obstacles you may encounter during the

process.

Introduction

A garden in every home is a home-based activity where the students of

NSTP-CWTS are obliged to create a garden and plant either or both ornamental

plants and vegetables to have an extra income as they market the product of

the fruit of their plants or the plant itself, if it is ornamental, and at least

lessen the expenditure in their house. Thus, this activity aims to assist the

CWTS students in developing and exercising their entrepreneurship,

resourcefulness, and ingeniousness skills while generating extra income, food

products, and becoming environmentalists.

CWTS students develop resourcefulness and ingeniousness as they turn

their unused land into an income generator and food producer and add

aesthetics to their yard if they grow ornamental plants. Resourcefulness comes

as the students use recyclable materials such as sacks and old tires as a pot to

plant their plants. CWTS students also develop and utilize their

entrepreneurship skills as they will generate extra income during post-

completion of this activity. CWTS students also become environmentalists as

they recycle materials into useful ones and plant plants in their yards.

Post completion of this activity, CWTS students are expected to

generate profits and produce foods from their garden and develop their

entrepreneurship, resourcefulness, and ingeniousness skills. CWTS students are

meant to learn to maximize unused land or space in their yard to turn it into a

profit or food generator.

4
The garden in this activity is composed of either or both ornamental and

vegetable plants. Additionally, this activity has its particular limitation. The

first limitation is limited space for planting or placing plants, thus, resulting in

a low-profit generation and a low percentage of food production. The second

limitation is the potential that the plant may die due to insects, weather

changes, and incorrect plant care practices that may prolong the food or profit

generation.

In Progress Results and Discussion

As our yard has limited space, I decided to plant ornamental plants to

fill my garden since ornamental plants can only occupy a small space, unlike

vegetable plants that need ample space.

I started the planting process on February 15, 2022, where I only have a

few ornamental plants. These plants are started to be little, and some only

have a few leaves. As I propagated these little plants, I stored them in shaded

areas that were not directly exposed to sunlight. They are also kept in an

elevated spot to keep them safe from any harm caused by animals such as dogs

and chickens.

Plant care techniques are not a problem for me since I have sufficient

knowledge to care for the plants because I used to care for plants due to the

influence of my mother, who loves gardening.

5
Week 1 Progress

My ornamental plants are not yet developed their height; however, they

have developed roots. It is visible in the Mayanas that their leaves and stem are

erected, unlike during the second day when their stem and leaves seem to have

withered. During the whole, I watered my plants every day for them to get a

sufficient water supply to thrive and develop roots. Additionally, the other

plants still showed no changes.

6
Week 2 Progress

Two weeks after adequately taking care of them, my plants, specially

mayanas, are now grown—they increased their height and number of leaves.

The baby doll plants are not yet obvious that they have grown since it is

natural for them to grow slower or increase their height; however, these plants

have already developed roots; therefore, I could tell myself that I nurture them

well. The Shatavari plant is naturally a bonsai plant; thus, its height is not

increasing much. However, its stems are minimally increased in numbers.

7
There are three plants added to my gardens—three aglaonemas to

increase the plant in my garden. I also did proper nurturing for them to thrive

and develop and cling to the ground of their roots. My mother said they are

pretty hard to keep them alive, so I'll try my best to keep them alive.

8
Week 3 Progress

In week 3, as expected, they are now fully grown. I watered my plants

every day like I used to do on the first day and gave them organic fertilizer. So,

as a result, they achieved a fully grown phase—they increased in height and

number of leaves. Additionally, the three aglaonemas show less obvious

progress as they naturally sprout new leaves slowly. The two baby doll plants

still do not show their progress in height; however, they already have roots and

grip on the soil. Moreover, one variety of Mayana is added to grow the

population of plants in my garden.

9
First day of April progress

As time passes by, my plants continuously grow and grow in population.

My garden plants continue to grow after several weeks, and It is visible in my

plants the biggest changes on them—their size, growth, and the number of

their leaves. Luckily, all the new plants are successfully grown as I nurture and

cultivate them—they are watered every day and given organic fertilizers.

As the days went by, I didn't encounter any problems because, luckily,

the weather was good, and no insects visited my garden on the previous day or

month. Additionally, my plants are placed in elevated areas; thus, they are

safe from any harm brought by animals such as dogs and hens.

Conclusion

This activity is indeed generating extra income and food while at home.

It is also the best way to exercise and develop entrepreneurship,

resourcefulness, and ingeniousness skills.

Before attaining an adequate result, a stumbling block is met during the

process— Before attaining an adequate result, a stumbling block is met during

the process—there is only limited space in our yard for my garden. To break the

hindrance, I came to the idea that I'll grow ornamental plants to compose my

garden, considering that ornamental plants take up less space and can be

placed on a DIY tier stair-style plant stand.
