“Looking at an object like an Extraterrestrial”: Kazoo

Questions:
● Why does the shape change along the length of the object?
● What effect does blowing into the three separate holes cause?
● What will happen if the clear piece on the object is removed or replaced with various
other materials?
● How can the pitch of the noise coming from the object be changed?
● What type of improvements can be made to this object?
● What function does this object serve?
● Would this be a necessary tool for humans to survive or is this object nonessential?
Observations and Details:
● Has a longer shape
● One end has a bigger opening than the other side
● There is also a hole at the top of the object with a clear covering over it
● Blowing into either side of it will produce different noises
● It can be utilized by humans to make music
● The shape and size of the insides to the instrument will impact the pitch of the sounds
that come out of it
● It includes vibrant colors which indicate that it can appeal to kids
● The bright green color also implies that it is more of a toy and less of a real instrument
that you might see in something like an orchestra
● It is made out of five pieces, two pieces make the long section of the kazoo, two pieces
make a holder for the plastic piece, the last piece is a clear piece of plastic to vibrate
● Air that is pushed into the object will move through the inside and vibrate the plastic
piece on the top
● The metal material it is made out of feels cold
● The design also appears to be very simple with no moving parts or components that
might break
● The manufacturing process is probably easy because almost all the parts are the same
material and there are no pieces that would be difficult to assembly
● The pitch of the sound is able to change depending on how you blow into the end of it
● If you push more air through the object the vibrations will increase producing a higher
pitch note
● If you push less air through the object the vibrations will decrease producing lower pitch
notes
● The green paint also appears to be low quality and fading / chipping around the area
were you blown into the object
● This might be a risk to an extraterrestrial beings as it is probably not safe to be inhaling
or consuming the paint that is coming off of the object
● The lightweight nature of the object and symmetry of the object makes it appear to be
fairly aerodynamic
● The center of gravity of the object is slightly off the center mark
● The wonderful noises that come out of the object make it seem like it would bring great
joy to humans when they are able to make music with it
