What I Need to Know

Through this module, you will learn how is sound produced and discover ways
of producing sounds on a variety of accessible sources in the community similar to
instruments of Cordillera, Mindoro, Palawan, and the Visayas. Making improvised
instruments to create sound from various materials available and/or playing simple
folk songs on Rondalla instruments will culminate the learning experience.

After going through this module, you are expected to discover ways of
producing sounds on a variety of sources similar to instruments being studied.

Specifically, you will be able to:

a. classify the instruments based on Hornbostel-Sachs classification;


b. create sound using various materials available to produce similar
sound to the selected musical instruments; and
c. explain the importance of preserving our unique culture and tradition.

The musical instruments of Cordillera, Mindoro, Palawan, and the Visayas
show a rich and unique musical ability of the different ethno-linguistic group of
people in the region. These different instruments reflect their complex appreciation of
music and signify their unique identity as Filipinos. These musical instruments are
used in various occasions, celebrations, and other activities. Their rich indigenous
musical instruments not only commemorate important events in human life cycle but
also serve as a reminder of the Filipinos’ exceptional musical talent, creativity, and
resourcefulness.

What is sound?
Sound is a form of energy that travel in waves that can be heard.

How is sound produced?


Sound is produced by the vibration of an object.

Example: When a school bell rings, parts of the bell will vibrate creating
sound.
