Performance evaluation of QoS 5G

Abstract

5G networks bring many new technologies and challenges to wired and wireless
networks. Now multiple standards organizations require 5G mobile networks to
deliver traffic-based Quality of Service (QoS), which is key to operators
recovering the large costs of 5G upgrades, because data traffic is the most
profitable part of their business. The problem was the low latency Network
Requirements to assure high volume of data with minimal delay, and interference
can effect the quality of the network. In this project a simulation of 5th generation
of mobile communication will done, evaluating the QoS parameters. Based on the
related studies and works, a mathematical model and computer models will be
investigated, in order to simulate the 5th generation network, evaluating different
parameters to evaluate the QoS parameters on the network. Moreover, the
MATLAB was selected as a simulation environment.
Chapter One

Introduction

1.1 Preface

In telecommunications, 5G is the fifth-generation technology standard

for broadband cellular networks, which cellular phone, companies began deploying
worldwide in 2019, and is the planned successor to the 4G networks which provide
connectivity to most current cellphones.[1] Like its predecessors, 5G networks
are cellular networks, in which the service area is divided into small geographical
areas called cells. All 5G wireless devices in a cell are connected to
the Internet and telephone network by radio waves through a local antenna in the
cell. The main advantage of the new networks is that they will have
greater bandwidth, giving higher download speeds,[1] eventually up to 10 gigabits
per second (Gbit/s).[2]  Quality of service (QoS) mechanism controls the
performance, reliability and usability of a telecommunications service. Mobile
cellular service providers may offer mobile QoS to customers just as the fixed
line PSTN services providers and Internet service providers may offer QoS.
Mobility adds complication to the QoS mechanisms, for several reasons: [1] A phone
call or other session may be interrupted after a handover, if the new base station is
overloaded. Unpredictable handovers make it impossible to give an absolute QoS
guarantee during a session initiation phase. The pricing structure is often based on
per-minute or per-megabyte fee rather than flat rate, and may be different for
different content services. A crucial part of QoS in mobile communications
is grade of service, involving outage probability (the probability that the mobile
station is outside the service coverage area, or affected by co-channel interference,
i.e. crosstalk) blocking probability (the probability that the required level of QoS
cannot be offered) and scheduling starvation. These performance measures are
affected by mechanisms such as mobility management, radio resource
management, admission control, fair scheduling, channel-dependent
scheduling etc.
