Subject-Physics ( Set – A ) Class – 11 Time – 1.30 Hrs M.M. 40 Instructions :- All questions are compulsory. Section A-questions 1 – 4 have 2 marks for each. Section B – questions 5 – 8 have 3 marks for each. Section C – questions 9 – 12 have 5 marks for each . Section – A 1. Find the dimensions of a / b in the equation F = a √ x + b t 2 , where F is force , x is distance and t is time. 2. Can a body have a constant speed and still have a varying velocity? 3. Derive the relation between linear velocity and angular velocity. 4. Derive an expression for work done in terms of rectangular components. Section – B 5. State the work energy theorem . Prove it for a constant force . OR Derive an expression for the kinetic energy of a body by calculus method Deduce its relation with linear momentum. 6. Define angle of repose . Deduce its relation with coefficient of static friction. 7. Derive the following equations of motion for uniformly accelerated motion from velocity time graph 1. S = u t + 1 / 2 a t 2 2. V 2 = u 2 + 2 a s OR Two balls are thrown simultaneously . A vertically upwards with a speed of 20 m/ s from the ground and B vertically downwards from a height of 40 metre with the same speed and along the same line of motion. At what points and do the two balls collide? Take g = 9.8 m / s 2 . 8. Prove the relation _____ ∆ Z / Z = ∆ A / A + ∆ B / B for the error in the division or quotient. Section- C 9. Derive by the method of dimensions, an expression for the volume of a liquid flowing out per second through a narrow pipe. Assume that the rate of flow of liquid depends on- 1. The coefficient of viscosity n of the liquid 2. The radius r of the pipe 3. The pressure gradient ( p / l ) along the pipe. Take k = π / 8 . 10. Define momentum. Give its SI unit. Discuss the variation of momentum when two bodies of different / equal masses have different / equal momenta. Show the each situation graphically. 11. What is collision? Prove that in an elastic one dimensional collision between two bodies, the relative velocity of approach before collision is equal to the relative velocity of separation after the collision. Hence derive an expression for the velocity of the two bodies in terms of their initial velocities before collision. OR Show that the total mechanical energy of a freely falling body remains constant throughout its fall. 12. (1) What do you mean by banking of a curved road ? Determine the angle of banking so as to minimise the wear and tear of the tyres of a car negotiating a banked curve. (2) A bend in a level road has a radius of 100 metres . Find the maximum speed which a car turning this bend may have without skidding , if the coefficient of friction between the tyres and road is 0.8 . OR State the law of conservation of linear momentum and derive it from Newton's second law of motion. A batsman hits back a ball straight in the direction of the bowler without changing its initial speed of 12 m / s . If the mass of the ball is 0.15 kg , determine the Impulse imparted to the ball . ( Assume linear motion of the ball. )
