Support Fitting Set for Overhead Equipment

1 Scope
This specification covers the requirements of the support fitting set for mounting the
overhead equipments such as transformer and regulator on poles.

2 Normative references

2.1 Applicable standards


All the support fitting sets supplied shall, in general, comply with the latest edition of
following international standards:
(a) BS 4464: Spring washers for general engineering and automobile purposes
(b) ISO 68-1: ISO general purpose screw threads-Basic profile-Part 1: Metric screw

2.2 Alternative standards


The supplier may propose alternative standards provided it is proven that it gives an
equivalent degree of quality as applicable standards. But the acceptance of the alternative
standard is limited to GECOL for approval.

2.3 Precedence of standards


In case of discrepancy between this specification and any of the applicable standards, the
following order of precedence shall apply:
(a) Technical specification of GECOL
(b) Applicable standards
(c) Accepted alternative standards

3 Definition

3.1 Mean coating mass


The average value of the coating masses determined either by using a control sample
selected in accordance with Clause 5 using tests in accordance with EN ISO 1460 or
conversion of the mean coating thickness

3.2 Lot
A group of articles offered for acceptance from the same manufacturer, of the same
design and manufactured under presumed similar conditions of production. One or more
lots may be offered together for acceptance; the lot(s) offered may consist of the whole, or
part, of the quantity ordered

4 Kinds
The kinds of support fitting sets are listed in Table 1 of this specification.

5 Requirements
Support fitting sets comply with the physical and mechanical requirements as follows.

5.1 General requirements


(a) Support fitting sets may be consisted of L-type or U-type angle (for crossarm and
brace) or equivalent and bolts & nuts for fixing it on poles or other accessories. The
main crossarm shall be reinforced by braces having 45 degrees to the pole and the
shape of plane figure shall be a regular square or a rectangle such as #.
(b) This support fitting set shall be designed so as to withstand the reference weight
specified in Table 1 of this specification or weight specified by GECOL.
(c) To fix or mount on poles the suitable method shall be recommended and applied by
manufacturer, the method may be of a bolt-type or band-type or mixing type.
(d) The dimension (Width or Length) of sets shall be designed so spacious that set shall
be installed according to Table 1 of this specification. The length shall be designed by
the related minimum dimension for meeting the requirements of GDS and a width
shall comply with Table 1 of this specification not be less than the height of overhead
equipment. The related GDS supplied by GECOL shall be considered for design the
sets.
(e) The bottom of set can be installed by wire net to prevent something from falling down.
(f) The diameter of poles considered for fixing is 270mm up to 510mm according to the
related GES of poles.
(g) All bolts for mounting the angle on pole shall be supplied with a nut, two plain
washers and a spring washers and others shall comply with agreement between
GECOL and supplier.
(h) Dimensional tolerance in which the tolerance is not specified shall be ±0.7mm for up
to and including 35mm in dimension and over 35mm, ±2%.

5.2 Crossarm and brace

5.2.1 Material
All crossarms and braces shall be made from steel of good quality in accordance with
ISO 630 or over equivalent. The shape of crossarm and brace shall be equal-leg angles in
accordance with ISO 657-1.

5.2.2 Tensile strength


Tensile strength of crossarm and brace shall be not less than 480 N/mm2.

5.2.3 Hot-dip galvanizing


The support fitting set and brace described in this specification shall be hot-dip
galvanized in accordance with ISO 1460. The mean coating mass shall be not less than
610g/m2 in accordance with ISO 1461.

5.3 Bolts

5.3.1 Material
All bolts shall be made from steel of good quality that manufactured in accordance with
ISO 898-1. The detailed shape and dimensions of bolt shall meet the requirements of this
specification and ISO 4014.

5.3.2 Thread
The thread of bolt shall be machine rolled and before galvanizing, comply with ISO 68-
1 and 724. After galvanizing, the bolt thread shall permit compatible nuts to be run the
entire bolt length without the aid of tools. Thread tolerance of bolt shall be in accordance
with ISO 965-1 and ISO 965-2.

5.3.3 Mechanical property


Bolts shall be property class 5.8 of ISO 898-1 or over equivalent and minimum tensile
strength of steel shall be not less than 520 N/mm2.

5.3.4 Tolerance
The tolerance of bolts shall conform to ISO 4759-1.

5.3.5 Hot-dip galvanizing


All bolts described in this specification shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with
ISO 1460. The mean coating mass shall be not less than 395g/m2 in accordance with ISO
1461.

5.4 Hexagon nuts

5.4.1 Material
All nuts shall be made from steel conforming to the ISO 898-1. The detailed shape and
dimensions of nut shall meet the requirements shown in ISO 4032.

5.4.2 Thread
The thread of nut shall be machine rolled and before galvanizing, comply with ISO 68-1
and ISO 724. Thread tolerance of nut shall be in accordance with ISO 965-1 and ISO 965-2.

5.4.3 Mechanical property


Nuts shall be the property class 5 of ISO 898-2 or over equivalent and minimum tensile
strength of nuts shall be not less than 520 N/mm2.

5.4.4 Tolerance
The tolerance of nuts shall conform to ISO 4759-1.

5.4.5 Hot-dip galvanizing


All nuts described in this specification shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with
ISO 1460. The mean coating mass shall be not less than 395g/m2 in accordance with ISO
1461.

5.5 Plain washer

5.5.1 Material
All round washers shall be made from steel in accordance with ISO 630 and general
requirements shall be in accordance with ISO 887 and ISO 7089.

5.5.2 Mechanical property


Mechanical properties of washers shall conform to Table 3 of ISO 7089 and shall not be
less than 200HV.

5.5.3 Tolerance
The tolerance of washers shall conform to ISO 4759-3.

5.5.4 Hot-dip galvanizing


All washers described in this specification shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance
with ISO 1460. The mean coating mass shall be not less than 395g/m2 in accordance with
ISO 1461.

5.6 Spring Washers

5.6.1 Material
All spring washers shall be made from steel in accordance with ISO 630 or over
equivalence and shall be of single coil, rectangular cross section conforming to BS 4464.

5.6.2 Mechanical property


Tensile strength of spring washer shall be not less than 520 N/mm2.

5.6.3 Hot-dip galvanizing


The spring washer shall be hot dip galvanized according to ISO 1460. The mean coating
mass shall be not less than 395g/m2 in accordance with ISO 1461.

5.6.4 Dimension
The dimension shall comply with BS 4464.

6 Tests
All support fitting sets are to be checked for compliance with this specification and with
the ordering quantity. GECOL reserves the rights to ask for tests to confirm the quality of
support fitting sets in the presence of GECOL representatives.
All test reports of the below defined and executed tests shall be submitted to GECOL for
approval within one week after the completion of the tests.

6.1 Sampling
Test specimens shall be selected at random from each inspection lot (or articles) in
accordance with ISO 2859-1. The number of samples selected from each lot shall comply
with Table 2 of this specification.

6.4 Retest
If only one sample fail to comply with the sample tests, a new sample equal to twice the
quantity of originally submitted to that test shall be subjected to re-testing. If two or more
samples fail to comply with any of the sample tests, or if any failure occurs during re-
testing, the complete lot is considered as not complying with this specification and shall be
withdrawn by manufacturer.

7 Marking
The marks shall be indelibly embedded on suitable position. The characters shall be
English capital roman letters and Arabic numeral characters.

7.1 Support fitting set and brace


(a) Identification symbols for the grade and quality of the steel
(b) Manufacturer’s identification

7.2 Bolts
The manufacture shall mark the symbol and identification of bolt in accordance with the
Clause 9 of ISO 898-1.

7.3 Nuts
The manufacture shall mark the symbol and identification of nut in accordance with the
Clause 9 of ISO 898-2.

7.4 Washers
The manufacture shall mark the designation of washer in accordance with the Clause 5
of ISO 7089.

8 Packing and Delivery


The supplier shall provide packing of the support fitting set and its accessories as is
required to prevent their damage or deterioration during transit to their final destination
and long period of storage. The packing shall be sufficient to withstand, without limitation,
rough handling during transportation and the exposure to extreme temperatures, salt and
precipitation.
(a) All support fitting sets and its accessories shall be delivered from the factory to the

specified site or GECOL warehouse.
(b) Every 50 or some reasonable pieces of the support fitting set and its accessories shall
be packaged in a stout wood box being packaged with waterproof package.
(c) Each shipment, if necessary, shall include a detailed packing list identifying all items
by part number.
(d) All materials shall be carefully loaded for protection during transportation.
(e) All materials shall be arranged to allow safe unloading at the site.
On the packing crates, a name plate shall be attached being not detachable and indelibly
shall include the appropriate items as the designation and dimension of product, gross
weight, the name and trade mark of supplier, etc. The characters shall be English capital
roman letters and Arabic numeral characters. The size of characters shall not be less than
4mm.

9 Document and certificate


The support fitting sets quoted by the supplier shall be approved by GECOL. The
quantity of document and certificates submitted shall be not less than three copies.
The support fitting sets shall conform to the latest edition of applicable standards
including clause 2 of this specification or any other equivalent international standards. The
design and construction of support fitting set shall be subjected to the approval of GECOL.

9.1 Information to be provided with the BID


Technical descriptions, data sheets, catalogues and other information shall be submitted
with the BID and those which are submitted shall be sufficient to enable GECOL to
evaluate thoroughly the proposal as to its compliance with the requirements of this
specification.
The minimum requirement is as follows:
(a) Detailed summary of difference with this specification
(b) Technical Data Sheet duly filled in and signed (Annex A)
(c) Material safety data certificates and the table of component ratio of all chemical
materials or metal used for manufacturing
(d) Detailed cross-sectional drawing & plane figure of all components in A3 or A4 size
(e) Detailed handling, installation and maintenance manual for good operation
(f) Brochures and catalogues containing outline dimensions, main electrical and
mechanical data, etc.
(g) Applicable design specification and standards in English language
(h) Test certificates approved by international institute

(i) Quality control system and relevant certificate

9.2 Documents to be approved by GECOL


The supplier shall furnish all relevant technical information, drawings etc. to GECOL
for approval prior to the start of manufacture. Offers without Technical Data Sheet
completely filled in will be rejected.

(e) Drawings of materials (All drawings shall be in A3 or A4 size with title block
approved by GECOL)

9.3 Documentation
All documents supplied under this specification shall be documented to the extent that
the end user can easily understand its theory of operation, performance, installation and
maintenance for the product. All documents shall be submitted being filed in order to
approve of GECOL and reorder later.
Language in all documents and drawings shall be written in English and dimensions
shall be used in metric SI-units.

10 Warranty
The supplier shall provide a full one-year limited warranty on all articles supplied. The
warranty shall cover all parts and all costs, which are directly attributable to the supplier.
Warranty coverage shall begin on the date that the articles are received.
