Sharing our personal information in various social media platform is rampant nowadays.

Technology is invented for the purpose of helping us humans to make our lives easier. However,

most of us misuse and overuse it. In improving the connections between individuals from different

place, the use of social media is indeed effective and useful. With tons of information shared on

the social media, it is a virtual meeting for the world. With this platform, the danger is that our

privacy control may be out of our grasp.

The world has seen increased in use of the internet and social media in the recent past. In

particular, the number of people accessing the social media through mobile devices as well as

laptops has seen tremendous growth all over the world. On account of this tremendous growth,

millions of people have been subjected to privacy violations by the use of social media as

voluminous information is shared via social media. Some social media sites have the capacity to

access the personal information of users and transfer it to various databases. Social media is indeed

abhorrent to the privacy of people. The aim of such social media platforms was initially to promote

the exchange of opinions, humor, and etc. However, the realms within which users share over the

social media has transformed in recent years to include the sharing of information otherwise not

consented to by the users. (Sanchez et al, 2012). This transformation poses a huge problem to the

privacy of users.
Privacy is the key that unlocks our personal information, we should not just give away our

privacy for the likes of various platform – we must protect it. We should be responsible and

mindful enough as a user of these platforms to keep our personal information safe for our privacy

and know how to control ourselves in sharing information about ourselves. Social media is a

wonderful thing. All of these platforms have shrunken the world, broken down international

boundaries and pulled humanity closer than ever before. However, too much of a good thing is a

bad thing.
